Job Description Director of Payroll & Benefits Accounting

Education
Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Administration or related field with a major in Accounting.
Professional certification such as Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada), Certified Payroll Manager (CPM), Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP), and/or experience managing a payroll and benefits team.


Experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience within a diversified payroll and benefits accounting environment.
Strong managerial experience and leadership.
Strong experience in strategic research, analysis and planning and several years leading and building a team to deliver and meet objectives.
Advanced Excel skills to perform complex analysis and reporting.
Experience in JD Edwards software or other enterprise resource systems is an asset.


Knowledge
Knowledge of First Nations culture, values, beliefs, traditions and protocols.
Knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency and Service Canada legislation and regulations.
Knowledge of Saskatchewan Pension Act and Saskatchewan Employment Standards.
Knowledge with an ERP system, specifically JD Edwards is an asset.

Condition of Employment
Must consent to a background check in order to qualify as a gaming employee
Must obtain and maintain a gaming employee Certificate of Registration from the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA)
Must be 19 years of age or older

Main Duties
Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this position contributes to SIGA’s reputation for organizational excellence, by providing effective leadership, strategic planning and systems development for corporate payroll services.
Responsibilities include: Scheduling, auditing and reviewing processes to ensure the accuracy, integrity and compliance of payroll data, with a focus on continual improvement and internal controls. Managing the performance, goals and development of departmental team members. Overseeing daily, monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll processes to ensure deadlines and goals are met. Maintaining awareness of payroll-related laws, regulations and best practices to ensure effective and efficient payroll operations. Serving as an expert resource for all payroll matters. Implementing and maintaining SIGA’s payroll software. Managing and leading payroll related projects and operational initiatives which may include creating project plans, executing, testing and implementing. Administering the payroll department budget.
