Flexible Working Arrangements
AFSC recognizes the importance of a healthy work/life balance and provides for opportunities for salaried staff to utilize our flexible benefits program. It is important to ensure effective and efficient management of employees while still providing eligible employees with access to a variety of flexible working arrangements.
Earned Time Off
The earned time off policy is another way that AFSC promotes work/life balance opportunities for salaried staff. It provides managers with some flexibility in work schedules so they can provide better external and internal customer service. The policy provides an opportunity for staff to work extra hours and enables them to take off up to an additional 12 days off each calendar year.
Relocation Assistance
AFSC may provide assistance for you and your family to move to the community of hire in Alberta. This may include such things as moving expenses, meals, accommodation, real estate and legal fees to name a few.
Employee Recognition, Social Club and Social Activities
The Lacombe Social Club, established in 1978 is a busy group who organizes various activities for members and non-members throughout the year. These include luncheons and the Lacombe Christmas party. The social committee provides members with coffee and movie vouchers quarterly. In addition, every couple of months we have fun lunch activities for both members and non members. For $1 or $2 you can have beef on a bun, hot dog and chips, barbequed hamburgers, chili, tacos, and the list goes on. Our annual Christmas party offers reduced ticket prices for social club members with an option to bring a significant other for a very reasonable price. The social club also sends fruit baskets to ailing employees in the hospital, when staff has had a new baby, and when there is a loss of a family member. We have celebrated and held activities for: Fit and Firm challenge, Wacky Wardrobe Day, Jersey Day, Christmas, Easter and Halloween, just to name a few.
AFSC has an annual long Service Awards celebration that includes a fantastic lunch provided by the Corporation and concludes with golf and other activities.
AFSC has a staff recognition program that provides monthly draws for appreciation awards, monthly manager’s tips, a recognition catalogue of items to choose from, thank you cards and a yearly draw of 3 awards for $1,000 each. The draws take place at the annual staff conference with all staff in attendance.
Fitness Club
The Lacombe Fitness Club is a group of individuals who utilize their own coffee breaks to organize various lunch-time and extracurricular activities for its members throughout the year, in order to facilitate healthy living and improve staff morale. One of the activities the fitness committee undertakes is to arrange for fit and firm challenges where teams of 5 to 8 enter into a healthy eating and exercise program for an 8 week period ending in assessments and prizes for various achievements. The fitness committee arranges events at lunch like: Badminton, Floor Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball, Aerobics, Softball and many other excellent organized events.
Learning and Wellness
The Learning and Wellness Account is a fund established to support employee competency and career development while encouraging a commitment to personal health. Every year, all salary employees receive $500 to be utilized toward learning and wellness. Learning and wellness has many functions:
- promotes workplace health and wellness and the employee’s responsibility to make healthy choices;
- provides access tools and resources to assist staff in remaining healthy;
- encourages camaraderie and teamwork as employees participate in group fitness activities;
- encourages ongoing employee learning and development; and
- provides support to employees in preparing for their future career development.
Pension
AFSC participates in the Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP) and for management employees in the Management Employees Pension Plan (MEPP). MEPP and PSPP are defined benefit plans, which means your monthly pension amount when you retire is based on your years of service and the average of your five highest consecutive years of salary. For more information on pension, please visit www.pspp.ca or www.mepp.ca.
Staff Training & Development
AFSC recognizes the importance of employee development and encourages staff to enhance or upgrade their knowledge and skills. Financial assistance may be provided to assist our staff in obtaining their goals that align with AFSC’s corporate goals.
The policy of AFSC is to train and develop its staff to assist them to perform their jobs more effectively, taking into consideration the constraints of time, budget and operational requirements.
Similarly, employees are expected to recognize that staff development is a mutual obligation in which they will use the opportunities available to develop their own potential to contribute to the accomplishment of organizational goals.
