Job Description Manager, Systems and Business Automation

Under the general direction of the Director, Systems & Logistics Engineering, the position is responsible for managing and providing leadership through strategic planning and implementing system solutions for business automation, process control and re-engineering, directing and monitoring the activities of the Information Systems supporting the Durham Retail Service Centre in Whitby by managing the technical expertise in the areas of controls, programming and systems; ensuring that software and hardware systems are installed, tested, tuned, documented, upgraded and maintained. The incumbent is also responsible for planning, developing and installing various system management software tools and processes to monitor, evaluate, compare and adjust daily service delivery against user requirements; coordinating with the General Manager, Operations and other managers to ensure timely and efficient system modifications and maintenance; administering system access security in connection with LCBO and provincial audit requirements and administering the IT change management process; coordinating the introduction of new and revised computer systems into the facility and ensure that disaster recovery processes are in place. Preparing and submitting for approval the departmental operational and capital budgets and maintaining cost controls within allocated funds; ensuring appropriate Human Resource management including performance appraisals, discipline and grievance handling as well as ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

Applicants must demonstrate progressive experience in technical hardware and production level systems support attained through post-secondary education and on-the-job training. Extensive knowledge and experience directing technical support activities; knowledge of information system theory, capacity planning, development and support is mandatory. In-depth technical knowledge of various operating network systems, including Open VMS, Windows, Unix and systems management, backup and virus protection is required. Extensive general and project management experience including interdisciplinary and interdepartmental coordination is required. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) are fundamental as is the ability to assess and balance customer service needs and system capabilities/capacities. A strong leader with good organizational, Human Resource, analytical and financial skills, the incumbent must be able to respond to an ever-changing environment while maintaining focus on departmental and organizational goals.
