Job Description Chemist

The Quality Assurance laboratory is seeking a dynamic and versatile Project Leader to carry out research and development projects, perform method development, validation and writing; to provide expert analytical services on samples submitted to LCBO-QA Laboratory; to actively participate in monitoring and maintaining the Quality Management system of the department; to develop more accurate and sensitive technologies and protocols, to ensure compliance with LCBO policy.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have:
A B.Sc. or higher degree in chemistry or related science, with significant experience demonstrated in one or more of the areas of GC-MSD, GC-FID, HPLC-PDA, HPLC-FD, LC-MS, ICP-MS and C.F.S., and expertise in sample preparation, extraction, purification/isolation and analysis; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Specialization in one or more of the following areas:
•Method development and validation including statistical analysis of method validation parameters, and writing complete analytical method SOPs.
•Experience in auditing of quality management systems with progress towards/attainment as a Certified Quality Engineer or equivalent
•Organizing and maintaining an intra-laboratory proficiency testing system
•Profiling and authentication of beverage alcohol products.
Excellent knowledge of analytical chemistry including full method development and validation.
Statistical analysis of analytical data including post-secondary equivalence for control charting, hypothesis testing, ANOVA, etc.
Several years of extensive experience in the set-up, validation, calibration, trouble shooting and repair of laboratory instrumentation and related software.
Excellent oral and written communication, technical writing and presentation skills.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills, work ethics, and ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Well developed organizational and effective multi-tasking skills; sound analytical, problem solving and judgment skills.
To be successful in the role, the candidate will have:
•Applied knowledge of Quality Management systems in accordance to ISO 9001 and ISO 17025.
•Advanced knowledge of computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Windows Operating system. Experience in Laboratory Information Management Systems/chain of custody procedure.
•Knowledge of the manufacturing process and composition of alcoholic beverages and previous progressively responsible experience in a similar or related environment. General knowledge of all Federal and Provincial Acts and Regulations that will impact the importation and sale of beverage alcohol in Ontario.
•Full understanding of laboratory safety procedures through WHMIS training and/or other intra-laboratory training.
