Position Summary

Plan, organize, set-up, and deliver a safe and enjoyable drop-in recreation program for youth ages 6-17;

Ensure the safe enjoyment of participants by communicating and enforcing program and facility rules and policies;

Address any unsafe/unacceptable behavior and first aid requirements;

Complete administrative forms, incident registration, and attendance and behavior logs;

Monitor participants with regards to program, site, and equipment supervision, and interaction with youth;

Maintain equipment and play areas and report any unsafe conditions;

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Competencies

Must be enrolled in full-time secondary or post-secondary studies;

Two years of leadership experience (work/volunteer);

Current Standard First Aid CPR-C certificate is required;

Completion of a leadership training course such as L.I.T. or NCCP is an asset;

Completion of a crisis prevention/intervention course is an asset;

Experience planning, coordinating and delivering recreation programming for youth is considered an asset;

Experience with video game systems is considered an asset;

High 5 – Principals of Healthy Child Development Certificate is an asset. (New staff without this training will be required to complete the training course at the earliest time possible);

Reliable transportation to get to and from work;

Must demonstrate corporate competencies: Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity, and Teamwork.

Skills, Abilities, Work Demands

Excellent communication skills;

Ability to work safely with minimal supervision;

Outstanding public relations skills;

Knowledge and understanding of poverty-related issues/barriers and the social resources available in the Kingston area;

Successful candidate must obtain and maintain a satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Record Check), including Vulnerable Sector, at own expense.
