(annual salary): The Bank offers a competitive total compensation package with starting salaries, based on qualifications, generally ranging between $91,074 and $113,843* (job grade 19).

Job Summary

The Manager, Data Management & Middleware Services is responsible for the management of a group of employees and consultants who provide technical services in the planning, architecture, implementation and support of database, middleware and related software.

Central Responsibilities

• create a healthy work climate for the unit, build employee capability, support employee professional development and enable employees to optimize their contribution
• develop and maintain effective and collaborative business relationships with internal and external entities to effectively conduct the business of the unit to ensure understanding of client needs and support effective resolution of client inquiries and concerns
• manage client service levels and expectations while maintaining a balance between corporate and client goals and objectives
• develop operational plans and prioritize and delegate work to achieve the unit’s annual objectives, assigning resources and ensuring the collaboration of other organizational units as required
• ensure that processes and procedures meet or exceed established business norms, analyze current systems and procedures in light of evolving technology and best practices, identify risks and opportunities and translate this knowledge to improve processes and operations, and recommend revisions to accommodate changing business conditions for improved performance
• provide technical leadership and direction for the maintenance and evolution of the database and middleware architecture, including the integration of security requirements, for all Bank infrastructure and databases
• develop, recommend and implement departmental and corporate standards (as required) relating to the database and middleware domain and ensure compliance with standards
• direct research on the evolution of the database administration function and its associated technologies, methodologies, etc., and make recommendations to management on the applicability of these concepts
• maintain awareness of industry trends as they pertain to the evolution of the database and middleware environments
• be responsible for the performance (i.e., production, reliability, safety and integrity of data) and support of business-critical database and middleware technologies as used across multiple platforms
• assess the impact of new services and/or technologies on existing Bank systems, services and standards, and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to integrate new services into the existing environment
• act as on-call manager for business continuity and critical incident management on a rotational basis, and prepare procedures to ensure continuity/recovery of service to clients
• participate in annual audit exercises and ensure that appropriate follow-up is carried out regarding audit observations

Key Requirements

• a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, business administration or other related discipline
or
• an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
in addition:
• a minimum of five to seven years in managing IT-related operations support
• a minimum of five years in leading/managing a team
• English and French essential
• linguistic requirement: functional in second official language (training may be provided to help the selected candidate reach the required level of fully functional)
• advanced knowledge of operational support best practices
• relevant knowledge or certification in database support (i.e., Oracle 11g, Microsoft SQL) and middle tier components (OCA/OCP DBA an asset)
• excellent communication skills with proven ability to present information clearly and concisely
• ability to build and cultivate a broad network of relationships that can be leveraged
• proven track record managing a budget
