Job Summary

The successful candidate will be part of the Release Management Team. The responsibilities of this team are to plan, bundle, schedule, communicate and verify the overall build, configuration and test plans of changes to hardware and/or software to create a set of release components ready for the production environment.

This team is responsible for the controlled evolution and protection of the production environment. The position is a rewarding opportunity that allows the candidate to contribute to the success of one of the Bank’s critical operations.

IT Operations provides end-to-end accountability across IT Services for the Bank of Canada. The IT Operations team provides technical services in the planning, implementation and support of network, server, security, database, applications and storage operating environments and facilities that support the Bank’s critical financial and banking operations systems.

Central Responsibilities

• lead or participate in planning, scheduling, bundling, communicating and verifying the overall build of a set of release components into the high-availability (HA) environments, e.g., quality assurance, preproduction and production
• monitor to ensure the success of the builds and the implementation of new releases into the production environment using established change management and configuration management processes
• maintain build or deployment scripts using Ant and Maven
• maintain/configure the related tools, such as Jenkin, to support the build and deployment process
• provide inputs to optimize release management procedures
• maintain/configure release management Subversion repository
• maintain/configure release management Nexus repository
• resolve complex problems related to release management; apply existing criteria and develop new approaches to improve the process
• build long-term relationships within ITS and the client community by communicating and managing client expectations during the planning and rollout of new releases
• conduct research into leading-edge service management solutions; monitor and keep up to date on technology development, methodology and industry trends, taking the lead or participating in the evaluation of new tools and products

Key Requirements

• university degree in computer science and 5 or more years of work experience in the technical engineering and operational areas of IT
or
• 10 years of recent work experience in the technical engineering and operational areas of IT

in addition

• experience with release, change and configuration management
• experience with IT service management principles, frameworks, practices, processes and tools
• knowledge of J2EE, Oracle and UNIX platforms
• strong knowledge of Ant, Maven, Jenkin, CVS, Subversion, WebLogic server and Nexus
• English essential
• ITIL certification and/or experience working with ITIL processes
• experience in technical and operational areas of IT, with specific expertise in implementing service management processes and best practices
• experience developing, customizing and documenting work flows, procedures and processes
• strong knowledge of project management principles and concepts
• experience developing and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders

Assets

• ability to communicate effectively in both official languages
• experience with distributed computing environment hardware, software and operating systems; networking and telecommunications concepts, standards and protocols; and intranet/Internet environments and web technologies
