This position provides leadership and technical expertise to designing, developing and implementing economic surveys in support of the department's research and policy objectives. This position is responsible for working with a team of economists in the Currency Department’s Economic Research & Analysis group. One of the main objectives of the group is to study and understand consumer and business payment behaviour to help formulate research and policy expertise for the currency function at the Bank of Canada.
•provide expert methodological knowledge in survey design and data collection•lead the design, development and implementation of surveys dealing with various aspects of economics, consumer behaviour and payment choice•advise clients of the opportunities, risks and problems of proposed options for methodologies and advanced statistical analysis techniques•provide expert methodological and analytical assistance to other department staff and clients; analyze, interpret and document results of internal and external research survey projects using advanced statistical techniques•author and contribute to publications that communicate survey data documentation, findings and economic analysis; keep abreast of developments in the fields and provide strategic advice on the direction of projects
•a completed MSc or PhD in statistics or a related field and •a minimum of five years of relevant work experienceor•an equivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredin addition•English essential•expert knowledge in statistics and sampling theory•demonstrated field experience in designing, implementing and analyzing the results of surveys dealing with economics or related social science fields •leadership experience•a demonstrated track record of managing consumer surveys and working well in an interdisciplinary environment•expert knowledge of and/or experience in data collection, including:-designing and developing multimedia survey instruments (telephone, Internet, paper/mail, CATI/CAPI) -analyzing survey data using statistical analysis techniques, including cross-sectional, multi-level modelling, time-series and discrete-choice modelling (especially program evaluation methods) -survey methodology and sample weighting•proven track record and expert knowledge in programming econometric/statistical software such as Stata, MATLAB, R, SAS or SPSS, Sawtooth
•functional in second official language•publications in peer-reviewed, relevant academic journals
