Position Summary

The Program Coordinator works with the Manager, Cultural Heritage to develop, implement and promote a range of programs, workshops and events that support public engagement and education. This includes working in conjunction with the various sites managed by the Cultural Services department - including the MacLachlan Woodworking Museum, Pump House Steam Museum and Kingston City Hall - and out in the community in collaboration with internal and external partners as required. The Program Coordinator is responsible for delivering a variety of engagement and education opportunities that require working with student staff, volunteers, subject specialists and community partners to deliver consistent, quality programming that is informed by a combination of expertise and experience related to specialized fields like museums, galleries, historic sites, cultural and arts centres. The Program Coordinator should also possess excellent people skills, have knowledge of the Ontario curriculum and be an advocate for public education.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program development, implementation and promotion to support the MacLachlan Woodworking Museum, the Pump House Steam Museum and Kingston City Hall National Historic Site and to support cultual heritage more broadly in collaboration with internal and external partners as required;

Deliver educational tours, guided tours, demonstrations, workshops and public programming and assist with special events and exhibits;

Work with student staff and volunteers and provide training and guidance to ensure consistent, quality program delivery;

Liaise with colleagues, summer students, schools, educators, artists and the community to co-ordinate activities and resources to ensure the expected outcomes are met for program delivery;

Plan and monitor assigned budgets for programming that includes expenses for artist fees, programs supplies, and other related expenses;

Document and evaluate programs using established evaluation methodologies and complete reports as required;

Other duties as assigned, including providing support for daily operations at the two City-owned museums as needed.

Qualifications, Competencies

3 year Degree in Education, History, Museum Studies or related field;

Two (2) years' demonstrated experience in delivering educational and/or cultural programming in schools and/or community settings;

Heritage, museum, customer service and audience development experience an asset;

Experience scheduling and coordinating student staff and volunteers an asset;

Must demonstrate corporate competencies: Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity, and Teamwork.

Knowledge of the Ontario curriculum as well as current programs and policies in community cultural development, community arts and youth engagement;

Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to work with diverse populations, including ethno-cultural and Aboriginal communities as well as underserved communities;

French or other languages considered an asset;

Must have own transportation and possess and maintain a valid "G" class driver’s licence;

Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Record Check) including Vulnerable Sector at own expense at time of hire.
