Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Aquatics, the Aquatics & Wellness Program Coordinator will coordinate the aquatic programs delivery to meet the needs of the community and assists with training staff on programs and development.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Ensure a safe aquatic environment for the public and staff in accordance with applicable regulations, guidelines, policies and procedures;
Assist with planning and conducting of the aquatic staff training;
Coordinates the delivery of Aquatic programs including swimming lessons, drop-in programs, and School Programs such as Swim to Survive;
Work with Aquatic team in the direct delivery of Aquatic programming;
Collaborates with other staff at all facilities such as Customer Service Agents or custodial staff.
Provide program oversight to ensure they meet quality and safety standards set out by the City and the Lifesaving Society;
Provide guidance and leadership to staff about aquatic training and programs;
Provide timely and effective resolution of customer complaints that meets the customers’ expectations using solid judgment, decision making and effective communication skills;
Propose and develop innovative programming to meet the needs of a diverse population;
Continuously analyze and modify existing programs;
Conduct program quality assurance through on-going program visits, observations and customer engagement;
Collect and analyze data related to programs, customer satisfaction, revenues and expenses;
Assists with program inputting and updating in “XplorRecreation”
Purchase and manage inventory of program supplies and materials;
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Competencies

Two (2) year diploma in recreation, physical education or equivalent;
Two (2) year experience in aquatics program design and administration;
Must hold and maintain Certifications as follows:
• National Lifeguard – Pool
• Standard First Aid, AED and C.P.R. – C
• Life Saving Swim Instructor
• Life Saving Instructors and Examiner
• Lifesaving Instructor Trainer (must obtain within 6 months of employment)
• Aquatic Supervisory Training or Aquatic Management Training
Preferred Certifications include:
• HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development & QUEST 2
• National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner
• First Aid Instructor/Examiner
• Aqua Fitness Certification (CALA, Water Art or equivalent)
• Aquatic Safety Inspectors
• Certified Pool Operator

Excellent customer service skills and experience;
Sound judgment and decision making skills;
Effective written and oral communication skills;
Ability to excel in a team setting;
Specific and current knowledge of aquatic programming;
Working knowledge of health and safety and aquatic standards legislation;
Demonstrated on-going professional development and knowledge of best practices in the aquatic field;
Ability to deal courteously and effectively with all levels of staff, program participants, and members of the general public;
Schedule includes days, evenings and weekends; hours must be flexible to accommodate program requirements;
Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (CPIC), including vulnerable sector;
Various tests and/or exams may be administered as part of the selection criteria.
