Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (BEKH) Summary

The Dream Legacy Foundation (DLF) and Carleton University Sprott School of Business and Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (BEKH) is a critical national network of research hubs involved in community-based research, with a mission to improve the lived experiences of the Black community. Through collaboration with a network of multidisciplinary researchers and in linking these with community-based researchers and practitioners and by adopting a regional community-based strategy, the BEKH will co-create and co-generate research that will deliver important knowledge, insights and outcomes that resonates with the local regional needs of Black entrepreneurs, community members and organizations across Canada.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The BEKH is seeking a Project Coordinator (Administration and Research) will coordinate administration and research projects and contribute to the broader BEKH project management activities. The successful candidate will have very strong interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to work in a dynamic environment. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating administration activities in the BEKH central hub at Carleton University and coordinating the management of research projects carried out by BEKH regional hubs and community-based research partners.

To accomplish this important mission, the BEKH seeks applications for the position of Project Coordinator (Administration and Research). The position will be based at Carleton University while the successful candidate will work closely with the Community Stakeholders, Dream Legacy Foundation (DLF), the BEKH Directors, Regional Hub leads, the Sprott School of Business, Innovation Hub staff, to ensure that the BEKH fulfils its national mandate and objectives and its commitment to Black entrepreneurs, community members and organizations across Canada.

Key Accountabilities
BEKH Project coordination and administration.
● contributes to project management tasks including payroll, milestone management, quarterly and annual reporting, etc.
● coordinates vendor enrolment, contract processing, purchase order and cheque requisitions and payments
● writes and formats documents including acknowledgments, reports and/or confidential correspondence in support of BEKH Co-Leads and the Research Program Manager
● coordinates payroll for graduate and undergraduate students
● coordinates staff and contractor payments and reimbursements.
● supports agenda creation and note taking for meetings
● maintains the general office filing system in both physical and electronic forms

Research Coordination and Relationship Management
● liaises with regional hubs for research contract processing and research reporting
● administers research contracts in collaboration with the Carleton University Industry and Partnership Office
● schedules and coordinates quarterly reporting meetings
● schedules, coordinates, and attends monthly meetings Regional Hub meetings and prepares minutes
● supports research project management in coordination with research principal investigators and managers.
● manages event coordination, including preparing a budget, contracting services, registration management and marketing for symposiums and conferences
● performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
● knowledge of the lived experiences of Black entrepreneurs, community members and organizations
● knowledge of building and maintaining network relationships with stakeholders across public, private, not-for-profit, community service providers, advocacy groups and academic institutions
● excellent multi-tasking, time management, written, verbal and digital communication skills
● office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, discipline-specific software, enterprise software, and technology devices
● Strong organization and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to work accurately, and to problem solve methodological or technical issues that arise during the course of the research.
● ability to interpret and identify key results from research and succinctly summarize findings in plain language in a range of outputs (slide decks, written reports, and other formats) tailored for varied diverse audiences
● Oral and written communication skills to discuss and document research progress.
● Ability to work independently, or in team settings.
● Displays strong initiative, establishing personal goals and taking responsibility for meeting them within defined timeline.
● ability to pay meticulous attention to detail and produce consistently high quality and trustworthy work
● Bilingual (English and French) communication (oral and written) is an asset
Skills
● ability to interpret and identify key results from research and succinctly summarize findings in plain language in a range of outputs (slide decks, written reports, and other formats) tailored for varied diverse audiences
● ability to pay meticulous attention to detail and produce consistently high quality and trustworthy work
● highly motivated individual who can take initiative, work both independently and collaboratively, and take on a variety of tasks as a member of a small team
● excellent time-management skills with ability to multi-task and balance projects with tight, short and/or far-off deadlines
● able to work with a variety of academic, community and practitioner partners to develop relationships and achieve research goals
● superior written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills
● experience with computer applications to build knowledge translation products and resources (i.e., infographics, slide decks and/or video stories) is required

Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
Education
● Bachelors degree in business, public administration, or related fields
Experience
● two to 3 years related experience
● demonstrated data experience and project management experience
● excellent interpersonal, communication (oral/written), and organizational skills are required, along with creative problem-solving abilities
