Position Overview:

Under the general supervision of the Inspector of Support Services Division, this position is
responsible for reviewing digital and audio evidence extracted from body worn cameras and ensuring information unrelated to court files is removed prior to Court disclosure.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collect, organize, retain and disclose digital evidence extracted from body worn cameras in
accordance with Saint John Police Force policies and municipal, provincial and federal
legislation.
• Ensure sensitive footage of victims and innocent bystanders is appropriately redacted to
protect the privacy and safety of others.
• Ensure maintenance, availability, confidentiality and release of records to authorized
individuals per established guidelines.
• Communicate performance, metrics and matters impacting the policing community relevant to
body worn cameras.
• Purge information extracted from the body worn cameras in compliance with the Saint John
Police Force Retention Policy.
• Conduct internal audits to ensure policy compliance and adherence; report any issues of policy violation and Officer misconduct.
• Ensure all body worn camera recording footage is properly catalogued with case file number,
title and file categorization and can be easily accessed and cross-referenced with case files.
• Regularly review the Saint John Police Force’s Body Worn Camera policy and assist the
Manager of Policy and Risk Management with relevant updates and RTIPPA requests.
• Oversee user roles, authorizations and permissions including restricting access to confidential
files.
• Process video footage requests for Court Unit and outside law enforcement agencies ensuring
that vetting has been completed in accordance with privacy legislation.
• Secondary point of contact for digital evidence software vendors in regards to troubleshooting, software upgrade testing and new products.
• Maintain current in technology changes related to digital evidence through research, personal
development and training.
• May be required to testify in court as a witness.
• Assist with the issuance, inventory and maintenance of body worn camera equipment.
• Collaborate with the Training and Development Manager to address on-going training
requirements.
• Perform other relevant duties as required.

Essential Qualifications:

Prerequisites:

• Approved Saint John Police Force security clearance
• Must successfully pass integrity interview

Knowledge of:
• Saint John Police Force policies and procedures
• Relevant Federal, Provincial and Municipal laws, regulations and guidelines

Demonstrated ability to:
• Identify issues or problems and develop strategies, ideas, and opportunities for resolving them.
• Adapt effectively to change within the work environment and maintain composure when under pressure.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other departments, and outside agencies.
• Plan and prioritize work to achieve maximum efficiency.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Systems, strong information technology literacy, comfortable navigating new computer systems.
• Ability to work independently.
• Detail oriented and organized.
• Work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

EDUCATION, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:

• Post-secondary education in Information Technology or a related field.
• Minimum two (2) years of experience in records management or related field.
• Two (2) years or more work experience in a law enforcement environment would be
considered an asset.
