Position Overview:

Woodbine Entertainment is looking for a Student Associate who is excited to learn and gain experience from a Senior Law Clerk. The Intern will gain experience in corporate law and litigation areas as well as get a solid overview of what a Law Clerk’s responsibilities in a large corporation are. This position will offer exposure to a multitude of tasks in relation to corporate law, the administration and preparation of relevant correspondence and materials and learning the clerical tasks of filing, data entry, and maintenance of files relative to the role.

What does your week look like?
• Assist with the maintenance of corporate records, minute books, share registers, etc. for Ontario and Federal corporate entities
• Prepare daily correspondence
• Assist with the preparation of legal forms and correspondence pursuant to the Ontario Racing Commission, Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency and the Ontario Business Corporations Act
• Commitment to company values and ethics
• Work on special legal projects on an as needed basis
• Scan, code and organize corporate documents for future referencing
• Input, revise, edit and proofread correspondence, agreements and other documents
• Perform all clerical duties including opening files, organizing/maintaining files, and filing
• Ability to review a file or document and note important dates into an excel spread sheet
• Lead by example, to exhibit, encourage and motivate WEG’s Values and Beliefs

Perspective Development
• Good understanding of the role a Law Clerk and Legal Counsel play in a large corporation
• Familiarity with contracts and legal documents
• Basic research skills
• Entering data and information from documents into spreadsheets and contract management
• Drafting of correspondence
• Further corporate and litigation knowledge
• Hands on minute book organization and drafting of minutes experience

Qualifications:

What we need:
Knowledge
• Basic knowledge of areas in corporate law and litigation
• Basic knowledge of office procedures and the rules of professional conduct as published by The Law Society of Upper Canada

Skills.
• Personally responsible, complete work in a timely manner, and performs tasks accurately
• Maintains a positive attitude and strong work energy with a desire to learn and be a team player
• Average or above average reading, spelling and grammatical skills in the English Language
• Detail oriented and always prepared
• Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously
• Strong judgement and analytical skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Proficient with Windows 7 or higher, Outlook, MS Word and MS Excel

Education and Experience
• Currently enrolled in a University or college degree/diploma/certificate program in a field related to Law Clerk or Legal Assistant or the equivalent in education and experience
• Experience working in an entertainment, hospitality and/or customer service environment is an asset


This is an unpaid internship based at Woodbine Racetrack's administrative offices.
