The Vice President, Human Resources (VP HR) is a key member of the Senior Leadership team and an integral partner in ensuring OTN meets its business goals. While all the Senior Team Leadership team share accountability for the human resources strategy, the VP HR is accountable for leading the team with HR strategies and in maintaining and enhancing OTN's unique culture.

This role is located in our Toronto office and reports to the CEO.


You will have key responsibilities in the following areas:

Human Resource Functional Leadership
- Develop and execute the strategic Human Resources plan
- Coach, mentor and guide professional staff; be a role model for our values, purpose, culture and a proactive change agent
- Develop department annual work plan to ensure Human Resources programs, policies and tools are consistently executed across all our operations
- Be an insightful member of the Senior Leadership team by providing coaching, insight and guidance on a full range of business issues;
- Lead the human resources governance with the Board of Directors, including performance management, succession planning and the organization's overall health with respect to people matters;

HR Systems, Processes & Compliance
- Define and implement key HR policies in a manner that holds all the Senior Leadership team accountable for their application
- Establish and maintain HR tools and resources to manage the HR function
- Responsible for OHSA compliance

Organizational Effectiveness and Design
- Plan and execute a broad level strategy to enhance the organization's culture and employee engagement as the organization transforms, with an aim of making OTN the best place to work in Canada
- Regularly assess and reach out to the external market place for human resources trends and opportunities. Absorb information, and determine what steps would be required to drive the success of OTN's people strategy
- Manage staff resources for highest efficiency and effectiveness, including setting, enabling and assessing performance and development objectives

Talent Acquisition/Retention
- Establish OTN as an employer of choice. Play the role of talent magnet and closer, working with the Senior Leadership team to attract the brightest in Ontario and beyond
- Develop a retention strategy that supports the long-term needs of the business

Learning and Development
- Develop and implement leadership development plans and succession planning programs for executive staff roles
- Identify 'emerging leaders' and other high potential staff for specific development plans and support ongoing process

Talent Management and Compensation
- Provide recommendations on annual compensation and benefit changes
- Responsible for benchmarking and strategy of executive and staff compensation
- Provide advice to employees and managers on performance management issues

Qualifications and Attributes:
- Bachelor's Degree in human resources, organizational development or other relevant discipline
- CHRL or CHRE designation is required
- Minimum of 6 - 10 years of experience in Human Resources within a role of increasing responsibility
- Expert knowledge of Labour Laws, ESA, Human Right's Code, AODA
- Ability to manage budgets and procure services in line with Broader Public-Sector Guidelines
- Ability to build trust and establish rapport with diverse colleagues and customers by listening, understanding their needs, and following through on commitments
- Use a broad range of communication strategies and methods to communicate vision with enthusiasm and clarity, and to inspire confidence and generate commitment
- Ensures the timely delivery of programs, projects, and services, effectively adapting to tight deadlines and sudden changes in priorities to accomplish objectives
- Takes initiative and sustained action to ensure the successful implementation of change by shifting strategic focus and embracing new ideas and building on past knowledge and success
- Takes responsibility for clarifying the expectations of others
- 3 to 5 years in a senior leadership role with comparably sized teams
- Master's degree in a related field, such as business is an asset
