Job Description:

The DevOps Engineer supports all software applications throughout the development lifecycle. Working as part of the DevOps team you will be responsible for code deployments, application updates, operating system patches, security improvements, hardware upgrades, production support and projects and programs. The position is in the Toronto office and will report to the Director, Infrastructure and DevOps.


Responsibilities:

- Develop monitoring solutions and implement tools to quickly find and resolve platform problems.
- Develop processes and implement tools to improve the automation of performing software maintenance and configuration in all environments.
- Build and develop processes and tools to automate daily operational activities.
- Develop and maintain automation to quickly and reliably deploy applications to pre-production and production environments.
- Develop tools and processes to support the infrastructure and increase development velocity. The goal is to implement a continuous delivery process to support a fixed, regular release process and schedule.
- Provide reporting and dashboards as necessary to measure and monitor progress on appropriate metrics to support the ongoing efficiency and process improvements.
- Manage dependencies across multiple pre-production environments and production to ensure the promotion of code throughout the development and test lifecycle.
- Interact regularly with Developers, Architects, Project Managers, Product Managers, Business Analysts and Executives to ensure the smooth operation environments and deployment of releases.
- Manage risks and resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality.
- Continually apply operational best practices to increase reliability and achieve greater automation.
- Required to undergo a criminal background check.


Education & Experience:

- 3-5 years of previous deployment/release experience using automated processes and tools
- 7-10 years of experience in a technology operations environment or development or QA experience.
- Experience architecting, deploying and managing cloud infrastructures (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud)
- 3-5 years of experience with managing large Linux and VMWare environments with a proven ability to automate ongoing management activities.
- 3-5 years of experience with various scripting languages (Python, Bash/Shell, JavaScript, etc.)
- 3-5 years of experience or familiarity with an automated configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet and/or CloudFormations.
- Experience with Docker or other Container solutions.
- Detailed knowledge of networking protocols: DNS, HTTP, SSL, SMTP, TCP
- Intimately familiar with the processes of branching, merging and continuous integration in source code management systems.
- Experience with source code management and build/release systems is required, in particular Bitbucket.
- Extensive experience with JIRA for project and issue tracking is required.
- Experience with Bamboo or other automatic build technologies.
- Strong technical ability and troubleshooting skills are required, including the ability to diagnose root cause and help determine a course of action to correct the issue.
- Strong interpersonal skills as this position requires extensive communication between different groups, both oral and written.
- Outstanding attention to detail and commitment to excellence.
- Proven ability to pick up new skills quickly, a self-directed employee
- Experience working with Agile methodologies is an asset.
