Job Description:

OTN is seeking a Senior Front End Architect. The Senior Front End Architect is responsible for leading the design and development of our next generation Presentation Layer that supports OTN's digital mandate. He/She will be focused on the tools, frameworks and technologies required to deliver the User Experience and work with the rest of the technology team to build our next generation architecture, delivered using Agile methodologies and tools. The role is in OTN's Toronto office and reports to the Executive Lead, Technology and Deployment.

Responsibilities and Activities:
Provide technical leadership and define best practices, approaches and coding guidelines for the development team
Recommend and lead the implementation of the appropriate technology stack and web development toolkit based on business context and UX needs to bring the product to life for both web and mobile applications
Lead the creation of Proof of Concepts and/or Prototypes, for both web and mobile applications, to support the vision of the User Experience team
Work closely with DevOps and the Development team to support Continuous Integration and Delivery, Test Driven Development and Continuous Automation improvements
Work closely with the Solution and Enterprise Architect(s) to define and document the Logical and System Architectures, Cloud Deployment Architecture and Non-Functional Requirements (specific to the Presentation Layer as well as its interaction with the middle/integration tier)
Build responsive sites for mobile and desktop web experiences
Work with product and design teams to develop new ideas and experience opportunities to continuously raise the level of engagement with our Members
Participate in User Experience workshops, User Story discussions and definitions to ensure that the technical solution can support the direction of our Products and Services
Lead estimation efforts for User Stories applicable to the Presentation Layer
Mentor other team resources to build their skills and capabilities
Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other corporate/departmental policies and procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the manager
Required to undergo a criminal reference check



Qualifications and Attributes:
Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
10+ years in software engineering including 7+ years building web applications using the latest standards-based approaches
Expert knowledge of popular JavaScript frameworks and libraries (specifically Angular and React)
Comprehensive experience architecting and designing Single Page or Isomorphic applications for a large-scale production site
Strong experience with front end build tools
Strong experience debugging/testing and troubleshooting JavaScript and css issues across multiple browsers and devices
Strong experience with native mobile app frameworks (Ionic, NativeScript and React Native) to maximize code re-use between web and mobile applications
Comprehensive experience implementing test automation frameworks and tools is an asset
Experience with a "headless"/decoupled CMS to deliver content using JSON
Experience interacting with an API/Microservice Gateway for delivering data to the presentation layer
Experience with embedded video using WebRTC is an asset
Strong understanding of the full development stack
Experience working with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level A and AA
Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical employees
Results driven and transform
Demonstrated ability to deliver large scale programs
Excellent leadership, project and talent management and coaching skills
Detail-orientation with strong organizational skills in a fast-changing environment
Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with all functions at all levels of the organization
Strong experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment with multiple Product Teams
