Position Summary

This position reports to the Manager of the program and is under the clinical supervision of Speech Language Pathologists within the program. The Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) assists in direct and indirect client care and program support of speech and language services.

Required

• Communicative Disorder Assistant Diploma
• Minimum 1 years’ experience as a CDA working with children.
• Knowledge of children’s speech-language development, including that of children with physical and developmental disabilities.
• Knowledge of family centred care.
• Knowledge/experience in the delivery of speech and language services through multiple means-ie individual, group, virtual, parent training.
• Knowledge/creativity in the development of augmentative communication materials (i.e. communication boards, theme boards, use of Board Maker etc.) and there use in treatment.
• Experience in working collaboratively with other team members.
• Organized (ability to manage caseload that includes multiple supervisors)
• Good time management skills
• Clear communication skills
• Availability to work extended hours
• Ability to travel to other sites.

Duties

• Provides direct client care through implementing speech-language pathology programs including individual, group, parent training, virtual services and screenings under supervision of the SLP.
• Assists in indirect client care including: scheduling of clients, preparing materials as requested, creating augmentative and alternative communication materials (i.e. communication books, picture boards, programming low tech devices); assisting in planning activities for individual and group sessions; supporting the client record.
• Assists in providing departmental support including organization, cleaning and storage of toys, materials and supplies; researching suppliers for specific tests, materials/resources as needed
• Completes clinical documentation and statistical reporting according to department protocol.
• Regular communication with supervising SLP’s regarding client’s progress.
• Participates in quality improvement activities as required
• Participates in public awareness and education activities related to speech and language services as requested
• Other duties as assigned
