Position Summary

The CA (Clinical Assistant) is a highly skilled International Medical Graduate with at least one year of postgraduate training. The CA functions in a physician extender role to support our acute patients in the Medicine Program. The CA practices to their full scope as a physician extender under the internal and family medicine physician team, with support from the larger interprofessional team.

Required

• A Medical Degree recognized by the World Directory of Medical Schools
• At least one (1) year of supervised, discipline-specific postgraduate training (internship, residency, clinical rotations and housemanship usually meet this requirement) verified through a Post Graduate Medical Education (PGME) Certificate
• Ability to perform all specialized functions (Delegated Medical Acts) in the clinical service area

Duties

The CA identifies solutions for complex healthcare issues for patients within Belleville General Hospital and/or Trenton Memorial Hospital’s acute medicine units. The CA is responsible for assessments, diagnoses, formulating treatment plans, documentation, ordering and interpreting tests, prescribing pharmaceuticals and performing procedures within the legislated scope of practice.

In addition to direct clinical care, the CA engages in continuous quality improvement, promotes the use of research and evidence-based practice, facilitates system change, and supports staff development through coaching and/or professional development opportunities. The CA demonstrates strong communication skills, champions person and family centered-care, advocates for vulnerable patients and their caregivers, and provides support and education to the interprofessional team.

Our family of four hospitals play an integral role in improving lives and creating healthier communities. We work together as one team across our hospitals to provide local and regional health care services, and also work in partnership with our communities to improve access to high-quality care, close to home. We are incredibly fulfilled by the work that we do, and proud of our dynamic teams of staff, physicians and volunteers who care deeply about our patients, and each other. We don’t just serve our communities, we are part of them. We live here, raise our families here and, quite often, retire here in the community that we love. Quinte Health is always looking for compassionate, dedicated people to join our team. We have a wide range of exciting roles, some which involve working across more than one of our hospitals, and some which are situated at just one hospital.
