Manager Interior Design

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the VP, Operations, the incumbent manages the NORR Interior Design department to ensure multiple projects translate successfully from a design format into a working construction document that adheres to budgetary constraints, project timelines and maximizes resources efficiently. The incumbent creates business plans, manages quality standards and allocates resources to meet project requirements. The incumbent provides project and departmental strategy and vision and evaluates processes and procedures to identify and implement changes to increase efficiencies and productivity. The incumbent coordinates the interior design production function of the organization and decisions affect the entire Business Unit. Net fees for interior design projects are typically under $1 million. Timely and efficient management of the design process has a direct and measurable impact on project profitability.

Primary Responsibilities:

1.Plans, implements and manages all phases of interior design projects, including staff allocation, determining scope of work, project timelines and budgetary compliance to ensure projects are completed in a timely and economical manner, while complying with policies, standards, specifications and relevant building code legislation. Analyzes and synthesizes data to forecast project requirement and create business plans.
2.Analyzes processes, procedures and working practices to identify and implement changes to increase efficiency, productivity and overall profitability.
3.Reviews all contract documentation including: plans, details, schedules and specifications to ensure interiors packages comply with best professional practices and applicable codes and makes recommendations, as required.
4.Provides expert advice to assist in the selection of colours, finishes and materials, floor and wall coverings, interior lighting, systems furniture and other items to ensure aesthetic, ergonomic, occupational health standards and sustainability considerations have been considered.
5.Monitors and maintains positive relationships with colleagues, consultants, and key stakeholders to ensure projects run smoothly and to resolve concerns promptly and efficiently.
6.Oversees workloads and provides staff supervision to ensure that work is done accurately, efficiently and complies with policies, procedures and standards as well as best working practices.
7.Provides guidance, motivation, and performance reviews including hiring and terminating employees, to maintain and enhance competency levels, identify future training requirements and achieve goals to increase performance.
8.Conducts space analysis and utilizes computer-assisted design (CAD), and other graphics software, to develop complex design concepts, and detailed plans.
9.Maintains familiarity with currents techniques and developments to sustain and improve technical skills.
10.Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines
11.Knowledge of building SMART, Building Information Modeling(BIM)/ REVIT an asset

Advanced working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Photoshop or Illustrator. Knowledge of Microsoft Project, Sketch Up, 3D Studio Max or other 3D rendering program is also required.
- Business acumen - advanced understanding of quality standards relative to interior design principles and procedures and construction concepts, relevant codes and requirements.
- Communicates with clarity, verbally and in one on one or group situations, or over the telephone.
- Communicates well in writing by composing clear documents; facility with editing and/or proof-reading is required.

Post secondary education equivalent to a 3 year college diploma in Interior Design. Project Management courses or designation is an asset.

Greater than ten years of interior design, or equivalent experience.

Certificates, Licenses or Registration:
Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO). IDC qualification.
