The Operations Database Administrator (DBA) focuses on overall administration of database environments and database management system (DBMS) software infrastructure to support live production applications. This position ensures a smooth transition from development to production of all related ongoing operational requirements.
install, configure and maintain all supported DBMS software (Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server) upgrade existing Microsoft SQL Server database versions (2005, 2008, 2012) upgrade existing Oracle databases from 10g to 11g or higher implement, test and support technical configurations and interfaces be responsible for ongoing operational support for security and privilege roles for system access in all environments, including Sandbox, Development, Quality Assurance and Production participate in application testing (new support packages, releases, functionality and customizing) ensure data consistency by adhering to data model standards and best practices build database schema, tables, procedures and permissions perform database performance tuning and analysis perform Data Transformation Services/SQL Server Integration Services (DTS/SSIS) package development act as a liaison for support groups and clients, and provide problem analysis and consultation for reliability of system access work with application development teams to determine appropriate authorization objects to satisfy security and management objectives assess the impacts of authorization changes to clients and users for potential segregation of duties issues support database auditing options to ensure support of management controls has ownership and responsibility for resolution of database-related technical issues implement and review backup and recovery strategy to ensure that business service-level agreements are met be responsible for leading and coordinating a system recovery in the event of a system failure manage DBMS system resources ensure optimization of resource usage to increase throughput and minimize contention o tune the operating system, network and transaction processors to work with the DBMS o ensure appropriate storage for the relational database management system (RDBMS) o enable the DBMS to work with storage devices and storage management software (storage area network (SAN) technology) o interface with any other technologies required by applications perform database maintenance (minimize the amount of downtime to perform administrative tasks) conduct database security administration (to ensure that data are available only to authorized users) conduct database environment backup and recovery procedures and review conduct DBMS release migration manage schema objects and perform production migrations administer database networking (Oracle Net, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), User Datagram Protocol (UDP), etc.) identify causes and implement solutions to more complex/uncommon business problems in a multi-functional setting, assessing and communicating issues of technology impact on the functional/corporate level analyze and monitor system performance to identify major performance bottlenecks in the system and identify the impact of administration tasks on core business scenarios initiate and participate in studies and exploratory analyses on database and middleware technology evolution and strategic opportunities provide long-term strategic thinking and analysis to ensure proper hardware capacity planning provide recommendations/decisions within architectural standards for development activities related to area of expertise identify and document technology-specific standards be responsible for monitoring database standards maintain documentation and take an active role in training and knowledge sharing among co-workers collaborate with development DBAs to coordinate database migration activities and disaster recovery testing, and enhance disaster recovery procedures provide on-the-job training to colleagues and clients participate in Type 1 4 projects by providing support in area of expertise
completed bachelors degree in computer science or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredand minimum of five years of experience within the last seven years, as a Database Administrator for applications making use of Oracle version 10g or higher and SQL Server 2005 or higher Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) designation minimum of three years of experience participating in projects ranging from six months to three years in durationin addition: English or French essential experience in database administration of an Oracle/Microsoft and Unix/Windows environment, including: o support and management of system landscape (development/quality assurance/production/disaster recovery), including configuration/vendor patcheso security and authorization administrationo client administrationo administration of development keys implementation experience with Oracle 10g Database and Data Guard software in a production Unix environment, including database connectivity and other third-party vendor solutions detailed knowledge of system management, including capacity planning experience with database migration and software upgrades experience as a DBA in the configuration control, tuning, development and implementation of databases using Oracle DBMS technologies and tools knowledge of Microsoft SQL mirroring and clustering experience with performance monitoring and monitoring tools (e.g., Idera, EMGrid and Systems Center Operations Manager (SCOM)) experience configuring memory in SQL Server experience performing database capacity planning and management experience creating and editing stored procedures
knowledge of Enterprise backup and recovery systems knowledge of network configuration, including TCP/IP, Firewall and DMZ (perimeter network) environments knowledge of ITIL best practices knowledge of Oracle Database 12C knowledge and experience of vendor support and escalation procedures experience working in a 24/7 production environment proven strengths in the areas of J2EE application development, infrastructure integration, troubleshooting and problem resolution
