CSA Group has an immediate opportunity for a Project Technician in the Energy Storage (ES) Lab testing batteries and related components.

Job Summary:
Under general direction, conducts testing to provide Certifiers with test data, analyses results, and provides technical assistance to complete test and certification assignments for a wide variety of battery cell, pack, and related component test projects. Responsible for test results and lab equipment in highly technical and specialized laboratories; provides technical training and guidance to junior laboratory staff; performs specialized duties as assigned; plus other senior technical activities and assignments as required.

Primary Responsibilities:
X Safely and efficiently complete test projects in the battery test lab to provide data to engineers for certification reports. Effectively schedule tests to optimize the efficiency of the lab equipment and maintain a high facility throughput.

X Operate and maintain a wide variety of test equipment used for electrical testing such as short circuit and over-charge testing as well as mechanical testing such as shock and vibration, environmental cycling, and crush/impact testing. Use safe testing practices including proper disposal of tested batteries.

X Demonstrate or develop strong competency in several highly technical testing technologies and controls such as vibration controllers, multimeters and data loggers, National Instruments Data Acquisition and Control systems including Labview software, environmental chamber controllers, and battery charge/discharge cycling equipment.

X Take a lead role in facility improvements such as new test fixtures, controls, and automation projects, including completion of initial facility. Use initiative to make suggestions for improvement and carry out projects independently. Assist project managers with facility expansion planning and execution.

X Continuously improve technical skills to become a crucial resource in our center of excellence for battery testing.

Qualifications and Skills:
X Experience with battery testing, vibration testing, and environmental chamber testing provides a significant advantage.
X Demonstrated ability to understand and operate complicated test software and controllers.
X Technical Certificate or equivalent education and experience.
X Associates degree in Engineering Technology.
X 8-10 years of related experience.
X Experience with national/international standards through testing, research, documentation, and technical articles.
X Ability to work independently and unsupervised, in a team-based work environment.
X Ability to manage difficult or unusual projects simultaneously and meet promised delivery dates.
X Must have a working knowledge of laboratory procedures, instrumentation and their application.
X Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
X Problem solving ability; self starter; good decision making; good organizational skills.
X Computer proficiency including MS Word and Excel. Familiarity or expertise with Labview a plus.
X Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
