Job Summary

The Senior Image Specialist is the expert and focal point for the creation of customized, automated image-related software installations using the industry's best practices and standard development tools. This position is responsible for the design and implementation of improvements software images and packages, and the overall quality and functionality of image- and packaging-related software development and content integration.

Central Responsibilities:

• lead or participate in implementing the required solutions as defined in established specifications and plans
• build and test web, application and database server operating system (OS) images, ensuring that the final builds of the OS images are free of errors
• select suitable architectures, implementation technologies, techniques and patterns; design the implementation and then implement the requirements
• drive imaging-related software development, content integration and application requirements to implementation
• participate in a leader/expert role in the planning, development, implementation and support of solutions and key business areas
• provide support, including on-call, shift and/or weekend work as required, for systems within area of expertise; monitor performance of systems and service agreements to ensure that ongoing service delivery standards, service levels and information technology (IT) policies are met
• conduct research into leading-edge solutions, monitor technology development and industry trends, and take the lead in evaluating new services and techniques
• research and integrate proven best practices
• be accountable for the design and build of all corporate images and packages for deployment on desktops and servers
• analyze diagnostic information about uncommon cross-functional problems or issues and provide recommendations for resolution to more senior colleagues or management; work autonomously to resolve complex problems in a multi-functional setting, assessing and communicating issues of technology impact on the functional/corporate level
• monitor systems performance and service levels and act as the last level of support in ensuring that client expected service levels are maintained
• as the last level of defence for the analysis, troubleshooting and repair of incidents, find solutions and make appropriate judgments and quick decisions regarding critical incidents
• when designing solutions, research, identify and evaluate potential products and solutions, leveraging strategic partners when appropriate
• establish and assess the viability of a multiple location solution for image storage and retrieval
• provide IT advice to management and colleagues on the appropriate direction, evolution and usage of technology (architectures, systems, issues, opportunities, policies and standards) related to their field of expertise
• maintain documentation and take part in appropriate training and knowledge sharing among co-workers
• participate in Type 1 – 4 projects by providing support in area of expertise

Key Requirements:

• undergraduate degree in computer science or related discipline
• equivalent work experience plus minimum of seven years of relevant work experience
• minimum of two years of experience designing, implementing and maintaining custom Microsoft Windows Installer packages
• two or more years of experience with Windows 2003/2008 Server infrastructure (Active Directory, DNS, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), File and Print)
• two or more years of experience with server virtualization support and implementation via VMware ESX
• English or French essential
• excellent communication and client service skills
• expert knowledge in the following:
o packaging and distribution platforms (e.g., Altiris, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Acresso)
o Microsoft Windows XP/7 client and Windows 2003/2008 server
o Microsoft's MSI technology and application environment
o dynamic-link library (DLL) (and other system files) conflict troubleshooting
o registry troubleshooting and modification
o Microsoft feature set and security model
• good working understanding of network, storage and server topology
• knowledge of software installation and patching techniques on Microsoft Windows XP/7/*8
• demonstrated technical understanding of Windows, storage platforms, inter-networking architectures, as well as web computing architectures


• industry certification (e.g., Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE))
• knowledge of software installation and patching techniques on Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows XP/7/*8 desktop
• understanding of/familiarity with Windows 8 and Samsung Tablet
• expert knowledge of Microsoft SCCM 2007/2013 and Operations Manager (System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) 2007/2012)
• knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
