Job Summary

The Windows Server Specialist is responsible for the ongoing support, maintenance and improvement of the Bank’s server platform. This position is responsible for technical support, planning, coordination and administration, including associated storage systems. The incumbent provides support in performance monitoring, tuning, capacity planning and prediction in the coordination and implementation of release or changes to the operating system, storage hardware/software and the range of products that support the development, testing and production environments. The Windows Server Specialist is also responsible for systems maintenance, plans and implements major software upgrades, and ensures that change management procedures and methodologies are implemented and followed. The incumbent works closely with the other server, storage and network infrastructure groups to ensure the highest level of availability of systems support to the Bank population.

Central Responsibilities:

• participate in all phases of the development methodology cycle to implement the required information technology solutions to meet business requirements
• participate in the planning, design and implementation of relevant architecture, hardware, software and customized software changes
• provide support, including on-call, shift and/or weekend work as required, for systems within area of expertise; monitor performance of systems and service agreements to ensure that ongoing service-delivery standards, service levels and IT policies are met
• analyze system needs; perform process re-engineering, operation management and research
• analyze diagnostic information about uncommon cross-functional problems or issues, and provide recommendations for resolution to more senior colleagues or management; work autonomously to resolve complex problems in a multi-functional setting, assessing and communicating issues of technological impact on the functional/corporate level
• provide IT advice to management and colleagues on the appropriate direction, evolution and usage of technology (architectures, systems, issues, opportunities, policies and standards) related to their field of expertise
• develop IT standards and guidelines for technology support and administration
• develop and maintain collaborative relations with internal and external counterparts (partners, clients and suppliers) to support operational objectives
• provide on-the-job training to colleagues and clients

Key Requirements:

• undergraduate degree in computer science/engineering or related discipline or post-secondary education in information technology or industry certification and a minimum of three years of recent experience as a System Support Specialist
• English or French essential
• three or more years of experience with Windows 2003/2008 Server infrastructure (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, File and Print)
• three or more years of experience with server virtualization support and implementation via VMware ESX
• demonstrated technical understanding of Windows, storage platforms, inter-networking architectures, as well as web computing architectures
• experience in performance and capacity planning
• experience in HP server hardware support
• working knowledge of:
• Microsoft Certificate Authority and PKI
• Windows tiered application support (IIS, ASP, SQL)
• MS System Center Configuration Manager and Operations Manager
• Novell eDirectory, IDM
• Microsoft SharePoint 2013
• Microsoft Clusters

Assets:

• ability to communicate effectively in both official languages
• industry certification (e.g., CCNA, MCSE)
• Windows 2003 or 2008 MCSE
• experience with SCOM (System Center Operations Manager)
• Extensive experience with server virtualization support and implementation via VMware ESX, 5.0 or 5.1
• HP server hardware support
