This Media Relations Consultant position is part of the Planning and Public Affairs section of the Communications Department.The Communications Department provides sound communications analysis, advice and planning services in support of the Bank’s policy objectives. A substantial part of the department’s work is focused on supporting the monetary policy function of the Bank and the related public activities of the Bank’s Governing Council. The Planning and Public Affairs division is responsible for providing integrated services of planning, advice, implementation and evaluation of external activities. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Planning and Public Affairs, you contribute to the creation and maintenance of constructive relations with the media, assist in the preparation, management and evaluation of the Bank’s media activities, and assist with the preparation of written materials to support the Bank’s communications activities.
• support the Bank’s relationship with the media by responding to media calls and coordinating requests for information and organizing interviews• write external and internal communications material, such as briefing notes, press releases, media advisories and media lines• conduct media monitoring and analysis • assist in coordinating press conferences, events and media lock-ups, as required• provide support to Bank spokespeople for speeches, interviews and press briefings• coordinate ad hoc media and presentation training programs for Bank spokespeople• assist in the preparation of reports and the keeping of statistics• contribute to improvements in the quality and efficiency of media relations services provided to other Bank departments and to the Bank’s senior management
• bachelor’s degree in communications, economics, journalism or business administration, and one year of relevant experience in the field of media relations or • a minimum of three years of experience in the field of media relationsin addition:• availability for business travel (national)• availability to work overtime, when required• English and French essential • linguistic requirement: fully functional in second official language• strong communication skills, both oral and written • proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment where teamwork, co-operation, coordination and flexibility are required • solid analytical skills • good knowledge of the Bank’s functions, policies and communications objectives• ability to meet deadlines and to assess priorities• ability to take initiative and to work autonomously
• knowledge of financial, economic and monetary policy issues and developments• experience writing for the web
