The Opportunity:
The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Financial Services Department as an Accountant III in a new position within the Finance team, under the general supervision of the Senior Financial Analyst.

This position will be responsible for management of AP disbursements and payments, ensuring all City expenses are recorded in a timely and accurate fashion and adheres to procurement and financial policies. The Accountant III will oversee AP systems and procedures, and provide guidance to internal departments who require support. The role also has responsibilities related to financial accounting and reporting, specifically processing monthly GST returns, reconciliations, accruals and other adjusting entries. This position will assist the Senior Financial Analyst in the interim and year end audits and preparation of the City’s Consolidated Financial Statements.

The Accountant III will also assist with the development, documentation and maintenance of strong financial internal controls. This position supports the Senior Financial Analyst in ensuring that the highest standards of accountability for the City’s funds are established and adhered to.

The Accountant III will supervise a team of three (3) Accounts Payable Coordinators. This involves motivation and guidance, establishing priorities, and working with the team to identify opportunities for efficiency and improvements.

This position will also play a key role in supporting the Senior Financial Analyst with the procurement card system for all corporate credit card holders. There may also be the requirement to test financial system upgrades and enhancements.


Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree or diploma in Business with a major in Accounting or Finance, and working toward a professional accounting designation.

3 years of relevant accounting experience, with a strong technical knowledge base in GAAP and preparation and review of year end financial statements.

Municipal accounting experience is an asset.

Prior supervisory experience.

Proficient user of the Microsoft Office Suite and experience with a major accounting software system.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication skills, multi-tasking skills with the ability to interpret and communicate complex financial data to a variety of users.

A self- starter with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.


Hours of Work:
We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with a regular day off every two weeks).

Compensation:
$72,071 - $87,686 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a generous and comprehensive flexible benefit package.
