As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to strengthen and promote health protection to patients, staff and members of the public attending in the hospital, prior to the first day of employment with the Hospital, all successful candidates are required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination (full vaccination is required) from the Ontario Ministry of Health website or other authorized source. An individual is fully vaccinated if they have provided proof of vaccination in the form of a receipt from COVaxON (the Ministry’s provincial system for COVID-19 vaccination information) and 14 days have elapsed from the final dose. In the event that you are unable to be vaccinated as a result of a ground protected under the Human Rights Code, you may submit a written explanation of the ground and any supporting documentation to determine if you are exempt from this requirement.

Position Summary

Clinician Application Consultant, Clinical Informatics, Information Services
Your goal in this position is to coordinate, implement, evaluate and sustain Clinical Information Systems (CIS) and Electronic Health Records (EHR), at North York General Hospital. Using clinical experience, you will facilitate, educate, and support health care professionals to understand workflow needs and ensurethe clinical information systems aligns with best practices. You have in depth understanding of current clinical practices at NYGH and excellent interpersonal skills as well as strong organizational skills. You have excellent written and oral communication skills and are a team player, who promotes the concepts of people working together and is able to work effectively with diverse groups of people. You will maintain effective working relationships with project team members, multidisciplinary team members and various Hospital and vendor staff. You are able to deal with problems and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in changing environments. You are a professional who demonstrates interest in clinical information systems as an enabler for quality patient care. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.

On a practical level, you will

  • Participate in the implementation of CIS aimed to support safe and quality patient care.
  • Demonstrate independent decision making as appropriate in evaluation of requests for system improvements and determine feasibility and advisability of system changes.
  • Assist in creating tools to promote and communicate process changes which align and optimize the
    use of CIS.
  • Participate in the development of testing scenarios and test scripts required to validate the design and build. Participate in the testing and validating of the CIS.
  • Work closely with clinicians, departmental leadership, and project team members to clarify needs, prioritize requests, recommend technology design, workflow and execute change and adaptation of the system.
  • Attend and actively participates in project events and meetings.
  • Work closely with other team members ensures NYGH policies and procedures support Clinical system design.
  • Work in accordance with established hospital safety Policies & Procedures.

Qualifications

  • Regulated Health Professional, in good standing with the respective college
  • Baccalaureate or graduate degree in health informatics or information management preferred
  • Solid understanding of acute care clinical workflows required
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in acute care setting is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in an informatics department preferred
  • Working knowledge of Cerner applications preferred
  • Solid working knowledge of desktop applications such as MS Office
