About the position

Reporting to the Property Manager, Ottawa Support Centre, as the Maintenance Team Lead, you are responsible for providing day-to-day operational oversight to the Technicians, assigning and reviewing work, closing work orders and managing contractors on-site. While you do not have any direct reports, you would provide input into performance discussions. This newly created position would also support the resilience of the critical environment by facilitating decision making and providing technical guidance when challenges arise. In addition, you are also a working Technician and will maintain equipment and do repairs as required.

Your future responsibilities

• assign, prioritize and monitor work progress
• ensure that work is performed in accordance with established processes and practices and is compliant with all internal and external requirements, including but not limited to, environmental, health and safety and fire protection
• provide guidance and coaching to Technicians and supply input for performance reviews
• assist in enhancing client satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through the way work is performed and services delivered
• monitor electrical and mechanical systems, report on findings and make recommendations for improvements to minimize operational risk
• apply advanced and specialized trades expertise to resolve less-common technical problems and collaborate with colleagues or external partners to resolve more-complex situations
• perform and deliver preventative and corrective maintenance as well as routine and on-demand services as required

Your education and experience

• High School Diploma or its recognized equivalent, and successful completion of Facilities Mechanic Certificate or Trades Certificate in one of the following trades: Steamfitter, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning or Systems Mechanic, and 10 years of facility and operations maintenance experience
• an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

• experience in a Team Lead or people leadership role

Your knowledge and skills

• current knowledge of fire, life, safety and building codes and standards
• act with respect and integrity toward colleagues and take accountability for your share of the team’s work
• support colleagues by sharing your knowledge and experience and responding to requests for help
• ask the right questions to accurately pinpoint a problem or make sense of a situation
• use available resources to their fullest and figure out who to talk to or how to get the resources needed to move work forward
• Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional in second official language. Training may be provided to help the selected candidate reach the required level of fully functional in second official language.

• Starting salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $63,141 to $73,665 (job grade 14)
• Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (5 to 7% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
