Scope:

This position is responsible for providing accurate and timely portfolio administration and reporting for derivative transactions. Primary accountabilities include monitoring, identifying and resolving any issues related to day-to-day processes of derivatives and assisting Manager in ensuring controls in place are followed. Derivative transactions include swaps, options and futures. Provides complete backup coverage for all critical functions as it relates to derivatives operations. Maintain book of record for daily derivatives transactions data used for trade settlement, asset mix reporting, performance measurement, reconciliation and general ledger purposes.

Responsibilities:

•Ensure accurate and timely settlement of derivatives investment transactions by identifying and resolving instruction discrepancies with traders, brokers and custodian.
•Prepare accurate and timely investment reports to be used for investment decisions, policy and compliance monitoring.
•Perform various daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations and related investigations and pursue resolution of discrepancies to ensure accuracy of financial data and reasonability of valuations.
•Responsible for maintaining book of record for derivatives transactions and ensuring appropriate approval has been obtained for each transaction per policy.
•Responsible for completing daily control checks and ensuring all discrepancies are resolved.
•Liaise with traders and counterparties to ensure accurate representation of the transactions and pursue issues resolution for identified discrepancies.
•Provide complete backup coverage for all critical derivative operational functions. Provide coverage for other team members when absent.
•Provide guidance and assistance to the administrators and review specific work output of the administrators.
•Enhance and update existing desk documentation of policy and procedures.
•Maintain up to date knowledge of OMERS policies regarding valuation, trading limits and signing authorities and apply to daily activities to ensure compliance.
•Prepare analysis, continuity schedules and special reports; resolve discrepancies and issues as assigned.
•Participates in the maintenance of the system of internal control, which ensures integrity over the data relating to investment transactions, safeguarding of assets, cash movements, income collection and market valuation.
•Identify, recommend and assist in implementing processes/controls/productivity improvements including automation of current manual processes. Responsible for documenting required changes for approval.
•Participate in the implementation of new processes and systems, and assist in user acceptance testing.
•Develop and maintain a strong understanding of derivative products and customer needs in order to respond quickly and accurately to questions and problems that arise.
•Develop and maintain appropriate relationships with other teams within the Investment operations, the Investment front office, Counterparties, Custodian and Auditors as appropriate.
•Maintain and update filing records and co-ordinate offsite storage.
•Participate in projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

•Minimum education: University graduate. CGA, CMA or CFA preferred.
•Minimum 3 to 5 years experience in Investment Operations with emphasis in derivatives products including futures, foreign exchange contracts, options and swaps.
•Familiar with investment accounting and marketable securities as well as audit practices.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills are essential to deal with all levels of staff and outside contacts. Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external clients.
•Detail oriented and demonstrated aptitude for analysis and problem solving.
•Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities to meet deadlines.
•Strong PC knowledge (Excel and Word) essential and investment accounting systems experience required. Exposure to Portia, CRD and Bloomberg would be an asset.
•Experience with one or more leading derivative trade capture systems (Murex, Calypso, Findur, Summit, Opics)
•Works well independently and in a team environment.
