Reporting to the Director, Learning & Development, this position designs learning solutions for maximum enterprise effectiveness, aligns learning initiatives to drive performance, delivers impactful programs, and advises for leading edge practices, impacting strategic business decisions and driving results. The Learning Consultant develops leadership, core competency, and compliance-related courses for people managers and employees, by assessing learning needs, designing, facilitating, and evaluating learning-related interventions enterprise-wide.

The Learning Consultant builds effective relationships and works collaboratively with internal human resources business partners, business leaders, external vendors, and members of HR centres of excellence. The Consultant is involved with the design, implementation, and maintenance of learning & development systems and technology and designs and develops elearning courses using authoring tools.


Needs Assessment
• Liaise with human resources business partners and business representatives to identify initiatives requiring learning support
• Working closely with human resources business partners, conduct needs assessments including, where required, focus groups, interviews and surveys, to identify specific training needs, appropriate learning methodologies and barriers to transfer

Instructional Design and Course Development
• Develop instructionally sound, interactive and engaging classroom courses, elearning courses, and webinars based on performance learning objectives
• Develop job aids and manuals where appropriate
• Evaluate and propose new training methodologies and tools
• Revise courses and materials to reflect changes in company strategy, policies and procedures, and industry/regulatory changes

Course Facilitation
• Facilitate in-class training sessions, webinars and conduct presentations incorporating best practice instructional techniques

Evaluation and Reporting
• Develop and implement evaluation strategies for learning interventions including course evaluations and pre- and post-assessments
• Evaluate new options and opportunities to measure behavior change and training impact on business strategy

• Build relationships with external vendors
• Participate in the development/maintenance of a positive, results-oriented team environment by delivering on commitments and working co-operatively with peers
• Identify and work with the leader and team to implement training process improvements
• Contribute to the selection/design, implementation and maintenance of learning and development-related systems and technology including learning management system, elearning libraries, and web conferencing technology
• Deliver new hire orientation enterprise-wide and ERP system training at Oxford Properties as needed
• Personally contribute to building a positive team environment by demonstrating OMERS Core Values


• A minimum of 5 years of work experience in the design and delivery of training sessions in a corporate environment
• University degree required; CTDP or accreditation in training and/or adult education is as asset
• Strong knowledge of adult education learning principles, theories and best practices
• Computer skills: Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Articulate Storyline, SnagIt
• Experience with learning management systems is an asset
• Project management skills or experience is an asset
• Exceptional communication skills (interpersonal, written, and verbal with a focus on plain language)
• Superior presentation skills
• Ability to motivate other staff and provide recognition as appropriate within the training setting
• Ability to establish priorities taking into consideration a variety of competing interests
• Ability to utilize today's technology to optimize the delivery of training to staff
• Demonstrated commitment to personal development and lifelong learning
• Valid driver’s license
• Availability to travel as required, including airplane travel and overnight stays
