The Manager, Communications is a strong senior communications generalist on the Corporate Communications team, reporting to the Director, Marketing and Communications. Under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, the manager will assist in the overall development and execution of corporate communications strategies across OMERS, including building awareness with a variety of stakeholders, and issues and reputation management. This is a hands-on position for an individual who wants to both lead strategic messaging and contribute directly through program and communications development.

The right candidate will have 7 -10 years of public relations/corporate communications experience with recent PR agency and or corporate experience. The candidate, a superb writer, will have a blend of external and internal communications, social media and communications and project management skills, coupled with tenacity for execution and delivery. This individual will have the confidence and experience necessary to work directly with C-level executives.


Corporate Communications
• Develop strategies and tactics for advancing awareness and strengthening of the OMERS brand and reputation on a global basis, including thought leadership, issues management, public opinion polling and proactive media.
• Understand and stay abreast of key industry challenges and company initiatives.
• Partner with communications, government relations, business leaders and subject matter experts to develop and implement communications and campaign strategies that reach, educate and engage members, employers and the general public on the overall vision, strategy and impact of OMERS.
• Analyze campaign traction and report results to senior management.
• Craft key messages and communications strategies and incorporate into company’s corporate communications plan; help manage department strategic communications planning and integration process.
• Pitch and generate quality, in-depth stories. Place and help write bylined articles/op-eds, identify outlets, secure publication opportunities.
• Coordinate with creative team to continually update and improve brand marketing collateral,
• Manage content for corporate web site, including updates and developing new content and refreshes that best promote the OMERS brand.
• Establish and track progress against key metrics for corporate communications success.
• Partner to build corporate responsibility strategy and vehicles.
• Engage in corporate social media strategy, management and deployment.
• Assess award opportunities, coordinate and prepare award applications (investment, governance, culture etc.) and team with business and functions leads to ensure success

• Proactively reviews measurement strategy and tactics, analyzing data from various sources and building a communications plan for overall engagement with the OMERS brand.
• Assists management to create an environment that motivates the larger communications team and increase communication with other areas and build stronger relationships across the enterprise.
• Assists management to reinforce department strategic goals and assist communicators understand the impact of their work to the overall goal through frequent teamwork and conversations.

Project Management
• Leads projects under direction of the Director and in partnership with the Senior Communications Specialists and in collaboration with Pension Operations and other areas, to achieve operational objectives by contributing information and making recommendations to meet the changing requirements of the departmental or organizational strategies.
• Teams with Creative Services to define project roles and requirements to meet overall brand communications objectives. Identifies and minimizes project risks and delays by identifying potential issues/road blocks and proactively seeking solutions.
• Provides status reports defining project progress, issues and solutions to management.

Team Work
• Uphold and demonstrate OMERS Vision and Core Values when dealing with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Seek opportunities to connect directly with OMERS staff via issue based problem solving and/or project work.
• Participate in the development/maintenance of a positive, results-oriented team environment by remaining current of expectations and working co-operatively with peers.
• Support Corporate Communications strategic objectives and participate in the development of innovative team solutions to challenging issues.
• Deliver results via building strong and on-going relationships across OMERS.

• 7-10 years of relevant communications and public relations, and marketing experience, preferably in financial services or insurance
• Experience developing and executing integrated corporate communications plans including marketing communications planning and execution
• Superb writing and influencing skills
• Ability to work in a fast paced and high-performance environment
• Solid communicator with hands-on experience working in collaborative, dynamic matrix organization
• Excellent organization and planning skills with strong attention to details
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
• Ability to work across varied communications disciplines
• Well-developed communication skills including the ability to articulate creative concepts and rationale with every level of the organization.
• Able to work well collaboratively with internal creative partners, including designers, photographers, art directors, production artists, and copywriters.
