Job Description

Montreal West Island CIUSSS is the largest birthing center in the province. The Mother and Child Unit at Lakeshore General Hospital offers you a unique opportunity to develop your career and work in the delivery room, obstetrical triage, postpartum and neonatal care. We have positions available in the delivery room and postpartum.

We assist families with approximately 1650 to 1700 deliveries per year. We are actively working towards Baby-Friendly Hospital certification, and are committed to promoting, supporting and protecting mothers who want to breastfeed.

Our mother-child unit consists of :​​​​​​​

  • A delivery room with ten (10) birthing chambers.
  • A post-partum and neonatal care unit with twelve (12) rooms and four (4) beds in our level 1B neonatal unit.

  • We offer a comprehensive orientation consisting of theory days and a few clinical weeks to all new nurses, as well as several workshops and online training activities. Our care consultants offer support and guidance during integration;

  • We offer flexible schedules with eight (8) or twelve (12) hour shifts and the possibility of a compressed schedule of four (4) days per week;

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accompany, assess and provide care to women during childbirth;
  • Ensure fetal well-being, supporting the mother during labor and the parents throughout the process;
  • Accompany, assess and care for women and their newborns after delivery;
  • Provide neonatal care for unstable newborns as needed;
  • Perform neonatal resuscitation when necessary;
  • Offer emotional support to families grieving the loss of their newborn;
  • Teach parents and ensure they have the knowledge they need to care for their newborn. (feeding, hygiene care and newborn safety)

The person we are looking for must:

  • Hold a Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) in Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a diploma deemed equivalent by the competent authorities;
  • Be a member of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ);
  • Ability to establish a therapeutic relationship with both French- and English-speaking clients.
