We opened our new Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre in early 2023 providing eight floors of modern and bright care spaces and will continue to transform our campus in the coming years.

The Behavior Therapist will be part of an interdisciplinary team working on both adult & child/youth In-Patient Mental Health Units and in Outpatient Mental Health settings. 

The Behaviour Therapist will work within a recovery based model of care to provide time limited, in-patient behaviour therapy services to individuals with challenging behaviours related to their mental health diagnosis. Using a bio-psychosocial approach and encompassing the Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) functions of data collection and analysis, behavioural analysis and behavioural intervention, the Behaviour Therapist willcollaborate with the various disciplines within the program in the development of integrated formulations and care interventions in accordance with evidence-based practice approaches.

The Behaviour Therapist acts as co-facilitator for in-patient group programming, as well as facilitates group therapy and individual counselling in the outpatient services.

 

EDUCATION

-  Bachelor Degree and a Behaviour Science Technology diploma are required, Master’s degree with specialization in Applied Behavioral Analysis is preferred.  
- Board Certified Behaviour Analyst in good standing with the Behaviour Analyst CertificationBoard required.
- Have met all registration requirements with the College of Psychologists of Ontario by July 2024.
-  Formal training in CBT/DBT/Solution Focused therapy/Family Therapy/Supportive Counseling would be considered an asset.


QUALIFICATIONS

- Extensive clinical experience, including a minimum of three years providing behaviour analytic services to various populations, (children & youth, adults, elderly) who have mental health and addiction issues.  
- Minimum of 2 years of recent relevantexperience (within the past 3 years) working in an inpatient 
Mental Health settings is required.
- Thorough knowledge of behavioral individual treatment and group programming involving data collection, data tracking, graphing, formulation, planning, implementation and evaluation.  
- Demonstrated experience in providing Behavioral Therapy consultation to interdisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices related to treatment of mental health and addiction issues and their impact onindividuals, families and caregivers.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing Individual and group counseling skills, including expertise with 
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (or Dialectical Behavioural Therapy), Solution Focused therapy, and 
Family Therapy required.
- Knowledge of community resource and supports.
- Crisis intervention skills, with well-developed problem solving abilities and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in training others in ABC data collection and ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) principles an asset. 
- Demonstrated familiarity with psycho-education, community resources, wellness, skill development, vocational support, goal setting, community integration and illness management essential. 
- Demonstrated Group therapy experience including, but not limited to, psycho-educational, task, 
recreational and psychotherapeutic groups required.
- Training/knowledge of P.I.E.C.E.S, recovery/psychosocial rehabilitation approaches, Workplace Violence Prevention, including gentle persuasion approach or willingness to receive training.
- Experience working in a client-centered, recovery oriented framework preferred.
- Experience with family support and psycho-education regarding mental illness and addiction preferred.
- Assessmentof mental status skills required.
- Programming planning and development experience preferred.                  
- Familiarity with the Mental Health Act.
- The ability to work with clients of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds is required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective organizational and analytical skills.
- Proven interest in self-development and in the facilitation of development of others.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Ability to involve/empowerpatient/family in their own care and to support clients' optimal independence in the least restrictive environment.
- Experience working with clients with a personality disorder and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy an asset.
