About WCB:The Workers Compensation Board promotes safety and health in Manitoba workplaces and aims to help prevent and reduce the occurrence of workplace injuries and disease. Working with its partners, the WCB promotes safe and healthy workplaces, facilitates recovery and return to work, provides compassionate and supportive compensation services for workers and employers, and ensures responsible financial stewardship. WCBdoes encompasses what it means to work at the WCB. The four categories of WCBdoes include: Security, Wellness, Engagement and Growth.The Application Architect is responsible for the overall design and development of application solutions within projects, the integrity and implementation of the enterprise-wide application and information architecture, and the continuing evolution of the software development environment (SDE).
Define application solutions to achieve the client objectives, in conjunction with the Systems Analyst and Software Specialist and within the framework of the application and information architectureProvide leadership/direction to project teams on standards, guidelines, methods, tools, and techniques in the development of the physical components of the application and information model, in the research, evaluation, selection, and purchase of packaged software/services and in the integration of packaged software/services into the WCB technical environmentDesign, construct, maintain, and integrate software componentsResearch purchases for software/service opportunitiesCustomize and integrate purchased software/servicesEnsure project teams produce a quality design from an operational, human factors, and development perspective through all phases of a projectEnsure project teams adhere to application and information architecture, where appropriatePlan, perform, and verify unit, integration, system, performance, scalability, benchmark, and user acceptance testingMaintain a working level understanding of the current WCB technical environmentUnderstand and contribute to WCB’s and the department’s long term strategy and plans (3 to 5 years)Research and obtain a general understanding of new technology trends on a continuous basisIdentify/recommend standards, guidelines, methods, tools, techniques for new Software Development Environments (SDE’s) as well as opportunities for improvement. Document and communicate the SDE.Consult (with the assistance of the Systems Analysts) with business clients as to the applicability of technology to enable business change, resolve business problems, and achieve business opportunitiesGain a working level understanding of the client’s business: functions, organization, processes, and productsAssist the Manager of Application Development in the preparation of departmental plans and budgetsDesign, develop, enhance, maintain, document, communicate, and support the application and information architectureMaintain a general understanding of packaged software/service solutions that may be applicable to the WCBPerform operational consulting (schedules/cycles/special runs/system upgrades/technical issues)Application monitoring for performance, availability, reliability, securityPerform analysis, determination, and resolution of problems producing appropriate documentationPerforms other related duties as assigned
