Okanagan Community Living Residential Service is a residential program that offers supports to people with developmental disabilities. The Penticton Beach, Okanagan based residential program is housed in a large single family bungalow with an attached duplex, a large manicured yard and flowers along the walkways. Neighbours respect and support our residents. We are close to local restaurants and coffee shops. To encourage community inclusion, residents use public transportation although the program also has a vehicle. Okanagan Community Living Residential Service is staffed weekdays in the afternoon and overnight as residents participate in our community based day programming. Okanagan Community Living Home Based Day Service offers specialized services to high needs participants. In-house programming includes functional daily activities that provide growing and learning components as part of daily routines. Individuals learn personal care and life skills that assist them with day-to-day living.
The Casual Residence Worker with Overnight Awake scheduling (CRW) is part of a dynamic care-giver team and is responsible for assisting our persons served (PS) to live successfully in residential settings in an accredited agency. Ensures physical, emotional, social, educational, and medical needs are met. The CRW assists PS to enhance quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of life skills. Provides behavioural support and supervision in the program and community, implements and monitors individual program plans through observation and accurate reporting, and participates in operating and maintaining the program. This position requires union membership with BCGEU. Scheduling: This position will work a variety of shifts that include weekdays, weekends and evening shifts that could include (but not limited to) scheduling of 0700-1500, 1000-1800, 1500-2300 and 2300-0700. Casual shifts will cover vacation, sick time and extra staffing requirements, as needed, up to a maximum of 40 hours per week. The on-call / casual position has the potential to lead into a part-time or full-time role.
• With the team, participates in assessing and planning for individuals in program; documents, implements and contributes to program evaluation. • Provides life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and personal finance; implements personal service plans. • Assists PS with activities of daily living such as hygiene, grooming and toileting. • Participates in various PS-focused activities in accordance with care plans. • Recognizes, analyzes, and deals with potential emergency situations such as PS aggressive behaviour according to PS Behaviour Safety Plan to ensure no harm comes to the PS and/or the public. • Administers medication to PS in accordance with established policy, protocols, and procedures. • Assists with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties. • Provides emotional support and feedback to PS and their families. • Transports and assists PS to attend appointments, shopping or leisure activities; operates motor vehicles safely and legally while transporting PS or on WJS business. • Performs residential maintenance and housekeeping duties such as laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment and food services. • Maintains reports such as statistics, logs and daily activities relating to PS. • Utilizes practices that promote health, welfare, safety and security of persons served. • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as required.

• Grade 12 education plus certificate or equivalent experience in related human/social service field • Current WCB Occupational First Aid, Level 1 (or ability to obtain within the probation period)• Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and Conflict Resolution Certificate (or ability to obtain within the probation period)• Valid BC Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract• Ability to use common computer applications required (training provided)Other Requirements:• Position requires; i) physician’s note confirming suitability, ii) negative tuberculosis screening test, and iii) successful criminal record check.• Successful candidate must sign an oath of confidentiality, a conflict of interest statement, abuse protocols and a code of ethics statement.• Willingness to work day, afternoon, and overnight-awake shifts.• Preference given to those with one year experience in a community based setting • Experience with Trauma Informed practices and Crisis Intervention
