The Program

We are currently hiring for Specialized Outreach Workers and Home Care Support Workers in the various regions within the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland of British Columbia. Each of our programs has implemented additional safety measures for the health and safety of our employees and persons served, in compliance with Government recommendations.

WJS Canada's Community Inclusion Services offer a safe and nurturing environment for the persons served. We focus on supporting the individual to achieve their goals and to maintain/gain as much independence as possible.

The Home To Stay program provides personal supports to clients in their own homes and specializes in services such as personal care, housekeeping, companionship, community connections, advocacy, and family support.

WJS Canada ensures the supports our clients receive meet their needs. Our staff are available twenty-four hours a day, 7 days a week, based upon the needs of the persons served.

Employees listen to the person served's wants and needs staffing to SMART goals, written in an Individualized Support Plan (ISP). SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Bound. Areas of Support are based on Quality of Life Indicators represented by eight domains:

• emotional well-being – contentment, self-concept, lack of stress
• interpersonal relations – interactions, relationships, supports
• material well-being – financial status, employment, housing
• personal development – education, personal competence, performance
• physical well-being – health and health care, activities of daily living, leisure
• self-determination – autonomy / personal control, personal goals, choices

The Position

WJS is continuing to grow on a regular basis, and is currently recruiting for experienced social services individuals, who are dedicated and excited to be a part of a growing company, from both the Specialized Outreach role and the Home Care Support Worker role, in the Lower Mainland / Fraser Valley areas of British Columbia.

The Specialized Outreach Worker identifies and provides specialized supports and interventions for persons with developmental disabilities, FAS/FAE and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder in an accredited agency. They offer a support and instruction focus on community inclusion skill development, social network and employment skills.

The Home Care Support Worker follows an Individual Care Plan, providing a variety of home support services to person served. This includes providing home-based cleaning and personal care to assist person served with the activities of daily living within varied settings to promote maximum independence as well as observe and document on client’s health condition and environment.

NOW HIRING 6 PART-TIME positions (vary from 2-15 hours per week) in areas such as Burnaby, Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley.

Future Openings could also include Casual / On-call positions, as well as, temporary and permanent part-time scheduling and will serve clients within the Vancouver, Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley areas (i.e. Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey, Langley, Abbotsford and Chilliwack). Part-time positions will work a variety of weekday and weekend shifts that could include (but not limited to), weekly scheduling of 4 hours up to 20 hours.

• Must be prepared to travel and to be able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekend.
• Requires the full ability to perform on-call duties
• Ability to travel within the above listed regions

In Your Role You Will

• Initiate contact with referred individuals. Assist manager with intake interviews and assess suitability for services. Assess support needs and formulate service plans with individuals.
• Make referrals to other programs, agencies and/or community resources as appropriate.
• Assist individuals to plan goals and provides support in accessing community, skill development, employment skills, guidance and emotional support. Monitor their well being and provide feedback and support to families of clients and other stakeholders in their lives.
• Recognize and analyze potential emergency situations and develop strategies to deal with them. Utilize their knowledge of persons with developmental disabilities, FAS/FAE and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder, develop service plans and front line instruction around crisis management, problem solving and community based instruction.
• Help individuals access resources in the community and provide referrals to services. Assist individuals to obtain temporary or permanent housing either directly or by coordinating with other agencies. Provide information that helps individuals make better-informed choices.
• Advocate for the individuals and assist them in self-advocacy.
• Review individuals’ progress and make reports regarding their daily activities and progress.
• Liaise with other agencies, professionals, ministry staff and the community.
• Develop Personalized Service Plans that are person centered and comprehensive in line with Dr. Shalock’s Quality of Life Indicators.
• Perform light housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, dusting, washing dishes, sweep and mop floors, cleaning, make beds, garbage removal and laundry.
• Assist clients with daily living such as hygiene, grooming, dressing, toileting, bathing, tube feeding, meal planning and preparation.
• Provide AM or PM bedside care.
• Administer medications to clients according to established policies and procedures.
• Follow prescribed Individual Care Plans.
• Maintain records such as logbooks and daily activities relating to clients.
• Assist in the evaluation of service deliverables and contribute information and recommendations toward improvements to the program.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

*** Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a current (dated within 6 months of hiring date) Criminal Record Check and Ministry Check. These checks can take up to 6 weeks to obtain, please ensure you prepare accordingly.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

• A degree, diploma or certificate in one of the humanities, social work, social sciences or related field. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience working with persons with a developmental disability, and sexualized behaviour
• Minimum of six (6) months in a similar working environment, facility or program
• Valid CPR/First Aid certificate (or ability to obtain prior to employment)
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and current driver’s abstract (hiring subject to abstract review),
• Reliable, safe vehicle with appropriate insurance
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate or equivalent (i.e. MANDT) certification (or ability to obtain during probationary period)

Other Requirements:
• Clear physician’s note confirming suitability, including a negative tuberculosis screening test
• Successful candidate must sign an oath of confidentiality, a conflict of interest statement, abuse protocols and a code of ethics statement.
• Must have consistent / reliable access to a computer/working printer/scanner/copier
• Cellular phone with data plan (compensation provided for business use of personal device)
