The Program
Clinical Enhancement Support Services lifts frontline practice across Taproot. Our clinicians blend Indigenous teachings with evidence-based therapy to help staff address trauma, loss, anxiety, complex behaviours and more. Support comes through psycho-education, one-to-one consultation, modelling and strong community connections, always honouring each person’s culture, strengths and goals. Through collaborative practice, our team supports Taproot staff working with children, youth, families, and individuals.
The Position
As the Clinical Counselor, you’ll design, coordinate and assess therapeutic supports that improve outcomes for children, youth, adults and families. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you’ll integrate Attachment, Family Systems and Cognitive-Behavioural principles with Indigenous ways of knowing to strengthen development, reunification and overall well-being.
Schedule
Permanent full-time, Monday–Friday 08:30 – 16:30 (40 hours/week) with occasional flexibility.
Travel & Hybrid Work
Plan to spend about half your time travelling across northern Alberta to support teams and communities on site. When you’re not on the road, you can work remotely from home or from our Edmonton office (or another approved northern workspace), whatever helps you do your best work while staying connected.
We recognize the cultural load this type of position carries and at Taproot we are committed to understanding the complexities of community, kinship, and cultural responsibilities. We offer employee engagement/community and connection in our Truth and reconciliation working group and are actively working to provide culturally safe pathways for leadership and progression within.
In Your Role You Will
• Work side by side with Taproot program teams so support feels seamless.
• Design, launch, and review evidence-based, culturally rooted interventions that grow with each person’s goals.
• Track outcomes and adjust plans to keep progress on course.
• Coordinate smooth hand-offs when services change.
• Connect staff and families with Elders, ceremonies, and community resources that foster holistic healing.
• Mentor teams, showing how to blend Indigenous wisdom with Western practice.
• Keep clear, timely clinical records and stay current with all licensing standards.
• Champion safe, ethical practice and collaborate with schools and health partners.
• Represent Taproot at community meetings, conferences, and professional gatherings.
• A detailed list of responsibilities can be provided during the interview.
***Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.
As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
• Master’s degree in counselling, psychology, social work, or a related mental-health field · Two or more years of recent clinical counselling and case-management experience
• Strong case-planning and documentation skills
• Trauma-informed, strength-based approach that centres culture, community, and land
• Familiarity with Indigenous teachings and the ability to integrate them with Western practice; experience conducting holistic assessments is an asset
• Collaborative leader who can coach, mentor, and work independently and in a team
• Clear, compassionate communicator in person and in writing
• Flexible and organized, able to shift priorities and meet changing needs
• Understanding of Taproot values, policies, and procedures
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence, clean abstract
• Readiness to travel up to 50 percent of the time within the consultation area
