The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Water Services Team Leader, the Water Services Crew Leader (Infrastructure) will be responsible for operating equipment and leading crew members in the operation of heavy equipment and maintenance projects in a safe and appropriate manner. The crew leader will manage a crew by prioritizing projects, assigning work tasks, using equipment, maintaining records, monitoring work quality, ensuring crew safety and providing performance feedback.

Primary accountabilities include:
• Perform hands on municipal water/sewer infrastructure installation and repairs
• Prioritize projects and assign work tasks to crew members in the field
• Ensure required materials/equipment are on site and in a ready state
• Instruct crew members in proper work methods and standards, monitor crew work quality, ensure adherence to time schedules and safe work practices and provide performance feedback
• Perform and lead crew members on water/sewer/storm infrastructure maintenance tasks
• Ensure documentation and records are complete
• Provide safety leadership and mentoring; ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act, Alberta Environment and Protected Areas and Code of Practice

You Bring:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Class 3 driver’s licence with Q endorsement is required
• Standard First Aid and CPR certification would be desirable
• Level 1 Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection certification from Alberta Environment and Protected Areas is required
• Two (2) or more years' experience in municipal water/sewer infrastructure installation and repair as well as storm sewer systems and their workings is required
• Experience supervising and leading others, providing instruction, delegating work and inspiring confidence is a definite asset
• Knowledge and understanding of safety regulations, requirements and work safety
• Strong ability to lead and supervise others
• Strong ability to work well with and assist others as a team member
• Demonstrated ability to operate equipment safely and effectively in all conditions
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to respond and interact with customers and residents in a positive and diplomatic manner
• Undertake all aspects of the job thoroughly and willingly

Additional Information:

This is a permanent full-time (40 hours per week) position.

The successful candidate must be willing to perform physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions, work overtime as required, and participate in the 24 hour on-call schedule on a rotational basis.
