If you are a nursing student, a health care student or an internationally educated nurse wanting to work flexible hours in a clinical environment, come join our CCH team as a Clinical Extern. As a Clinical Extern you will be working with a defined scope as an unregulated health care provider (UCP). Working with all clinical teams, you will be working with a Clinical Extern Mentor/Coordinator who will be available for assisting in scheduling, skills, and education support. You will ultimately report to the Director of Professional Practice. The Clinical Extern will understand and appreciate the role of the RN & RPN and assist with the functioning of the nursing team at the patient care level. Come join our team!What you can expect at CCH in the Clinical Extern Program:• A comprehensive orientation• Access to support and mentorship • Frequent check ins and communication with team members, Extern Coordinators, Managers & Directors• Assistance with all forms of team and communication skills at CCH• Assistance with the registration process once formal education has been completed• Ability to grow within the organization once all education and registration is completeResponsibilities:• Participate in patient assessments and activities for daily living• Contribute to care planning and evaluation• Provide assistance with lifting, turning, transferring, transporting and ambulating • Provide measure to ensure skin integrity and reduce pressure injuries• Assist with comfort measure and patients’ safety by ensuring environment is clean and tidy and free of hazards• Communication with all team members & possessing excellent interprofessional skills• Engage in additional tasks via delegation as approved by unit leadership• Requests assistance with assigned duties whenever needed and alerts team members when any change or concern about the patient’s condition is raised• Reports to work on all shifts assigned, or ensures that the Manager is notified if absence prior to the start of the shift• Maintains confidentiality in accordance with hospital policies and procedures• Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Engagement (ICARE)• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Cornwall Community Hospital’s comprehensive safety programs and practices, including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety, and participation in regular in-service education in areas
• Enrolled in a College nursing RPN program in any year of study• Enrolled in a University Nursing Program (RN) in any year of study.• IEN completing a micro-credential plan to meet CNO requirements for registration• Occupational Therapy: Any year• Paramedic program: 2nd year• Physiotherapy: any year• Respiratory therapy Program: 2nd to 3rd year• Evidence of good academic standing• Successful completion of the academic year prior to the last year in a recognized program• Evidence of successful learning experiences in recent clinical placements• Current BCLS• An official school transcript will be required if you are invited to be interviewed and are a successful candidate for this position
