Why is this role important?

The Senior Analyst works collaboratively with relevant areas at CIHI to support analytical reporting, information quality activities as well as education and knowledge exchange activities for clients in Ontario. The Senior Analyst is responsible for the overall coordination and administration of operational activities and provides internal support to the Ontario Client Affairs Office whose role is to liaise between CIHI and its Ontario clients.

The Senior Analyst possesses solid knowledge of the health systems in Ontario and issues related to using health information to support evidenced-based decision making at the policy, strategic and operational levels of health care.

What you'll do

1. Contributes to the uptake of CIHI products and services by conducting related data analysis, data synthesis and/or information gathering relevant to Ontario.

2. Conducts ad hoc analyses to answer policy-relevant questions focused on improving the health of Ontarians; liaises with key internal interest holders and external clients to define requirements and specifications in accordance with CIHI’s Privacy and Confidentiality/Data Access Policies

3. Provides analytical and business intelligence support across Regional Offices, as needed.

4. Develops relationships with key Ontario clients through regular meetings and correspondence.

5. Conducts literature reviews, environmental scans, fact-checking and other information gathering activities as needed for Ontario, to develop a strong understanding of client needs and interests, and to identify opportunities to provide data, information and appropriate supports. This may include monitoring/reviewing/summarizing publications, legislation, data tools, conferences from relevant organizations in Ontario.

6. Develops and maintains knowledge of CIHI’s data holdings, related data held by other organizations, and tools/best practices used by CIHI to access these data holdings and related analysis. Develops comprehensive and integrative knowledge of programs and services across CIHI and other relevant programs across Canada.

7. Responsible for the internal process support of the Ontario Client Affairs office including basic distribution list support, tracking of Ontario committee and education events participation. In addition, conducting risk assessments of CIHI releases to facilitate a “no surprises” environment for external clients.

8. Assumes responsibility for other related duties as assigned.

What you'll bring to the table

• Undergraduate degree in health sciences, health policy, health economics, social sciences, mathematics, statistics or similar field is preferred. A graduate degree is an asset.
• Minimum 3-5 years experience working in a health care research or policy environment involved in the analysis, design and dissemination of analytical studies and related information products.
• Strong knowledge of the Ontario health care system and key organizations.
• Experience with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Access, SharePoint), analytical software (e.g., SAS, Python, R), and visual analytic software (e.g., MicroStrategy, Tableau, Qlikview).
• Ability to strategically analyze and synthesize data and information to derive actionable insights and knowledge.
• Experience in the preparation and presentation of information products with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently and to be a good ambassador for CIHI.
• Strong oral and written communication skills; superior presentation, customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate complex or technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
• Working knowledge of CIHI databases, products and services.
• Ability to meet occasional travel requirements.
• Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
