    Position Overview:

    Human Resources - Edmonton
    Permanent, Full Time position

    The Manager, Total Compensation will design, develop and maintain employee benefit plans and policies, the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and total compensation programs to align with organizational goals. The incumbent will guide a team of professionals that needs to understand all areas of the organization in order to be a strategic partner to provide outstanding service to our clients. To be successful in this role, the incumbent must be able to problem solve, think strategically and quickly and lead with vision.

    Responsibilities:

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Ensure the provision of a competitive, comprehensive total compensation program in line with the organization’s compensation philosophy by conducting salary surveys, designing and adjusting the salary structure, job evaluation and costing and research for union negotiation.
    • Design development and administration of corporate employee and retiree benefit programs and associated policies and procedures. Responsible for contract negotiations with benefit carriers and insurers. Accountable for financial reporting of benefit plans including liability valuations, and for benefit plan expenditures, trend analysis and recommendations.
    • Project manage HRIS updates and enhancement projects as well as on-going maintenance of the system.
    • Payroll administration including INSYNC system and manual payroll disbursements reconciliation and reporting while also managing the third party payroll provider contract.
    • Provide leadership and direction to a team of HR compensation, benefits, payroll and systems professionals, while meeting deadlines and project schedules

    Qualifications:

    The incumbent must have highly developed planning and organizing skills; be a proven problem solver and decision-maker; have the ability to understand and relate to complex, multi-faceted issues; must have well developed oral and written communications skills; proven leadership ability; and issues analysis and negotiation/mediation skills.

    • University degree or equivalent diploma in Business Administration or HR Management is preferred.
    • Professional designations: Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) are preferred.
    • At least seven years’ progressively responsible experience with benefits, compensation and payroll administration, including experience with the Public Service Pension Plans in Alberta is required including a minimum of three years’ experience in a leadership role. A leadership or supervisory certificate is an asset.
    • Human Resources systems experience is essential; experience with PeopleSoft HRMS including SQR report writing and PSquery; and Lotus Notes is an asset.
    • Mathematical aptitude with experience in all Microsoft Office software.
    • Project management skills would be an asset.
    • Excellent ability to create and present business cases and briefing notes.
    • Ability to provide excellent customer service skills in difficult and stressful situations. Must be able to work under tight timelines and handle multi-tasking.

    Salary:

    Salary Range 15

    Start Rate: $111,900 per annum
    Job Rate: $139,860 per annum
