The Program

336-40 Westlock Hen House

This long-term program encourages persons with developmental disabilities to build on strengths, further develop life skills, overcome barriers and actively participate in their community.

The Position

The Community Disability Support Worker working 30+ hrs/wk, 4 shifts on, 4 off rotation (8am - 6pm), to assess individual needs and requirements, as well as provide support for activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal care (bathing)

In Your Role You Will

• Assist client to develop personal home living skills, this will include providing personal care (bathing) and lifts/transfers.
• Mentor client towards achieving Individual Support Plan (ISP) goals, including life skills and household chores (meal prep, cleaning, hygiene, etc.)
• Drive person in care (in your own vehicle) and supervise/participate with the client in recreational, leisure, vocational (training/employment) activities in the community.
• Support client during setbacks and celebrating successes with them.
• Assist individual with behavioural, emotional and social needs/skills
• Administer medication, first aid if/when necessary.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

• Experience working with developmental disability or mental illness: 2 years
• MUST HAVE - Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License; reliable vehicle, clean driver’s abstract and adequate insurance
• Must be physically able to do lifts/transfers and be able to provide personal care, such as bathing, etc.
• Skills in coaching/assisting individuals in life skills, anger management, daily chores, self help & problem solving, etc.
• Committed to philosophies and principles of community based living for individuals in service.
• Good computer skills - as all files are electronic
• CPR/First Aid & Abuse Protocol training
• Non Violent Crisis Intervention training
