As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to strengthen and promote health protection to patients, staff and members of the public attending in the hospital, prior to the first day of employment with the Hospital, all successful candidates are required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination (full vaccination is required) from the Ontario Ministry of Health website or other authorized source. An individual is fully vaccinated if they have provided proof of vaccination in the form of a receipt from COVaxON (the Ministry’s provincial system for COVID-19 vaccination information) and 14 days have elapsed from the final dose. In the event that you are unable to be vaccinated as a result of a ground protected under the Human Rights Code, you may submit a written explanation of the ground and any supporting documentation to determine if you are exempt from this requirement.

Position Summary

Registered Technologist, Cardiac Stress
Your goal in this position is to perform a variety of non-invasive examinations such as ECG, stress testing, Holter and Event monitoring, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and Nuclear exercise and pharmacological stress testing that meet the established standards of the Department. You have the ability to operate imaging equipment in the department and also have the ability to listen and take direction effectively. You have good communication skills and multi-tasking skills. You are able to work in a fast-paced environment and are easily adaptable. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.

On a practical level, you will

  • Explains procedures to prepare patients for testing in the examinations mentioned in the above job summary
  • Performs exam by attaching electrodes to the patient, operating the equipment, analyzing and recording relevant data for interpretation by Cardiologist
  • Monitors patients and scans strips during examination for cardiac arrhythmias or other abnormalities and takes appropriate action in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Monitors ongoing departmental activity levels and assists fellow staff to meet requests for service.
  • Maintains high level quality of service and Assists with Staff Scheduling
  • Participates in training of new employees and students
  • Participates in all quality management activities by providing information and input to Manager or designate.
  • Assists in new policy development when required
  • Ensures correct functioning of equipment and arranges for regular preventative maintenance or service if required.
  • Ensures adequate inventory of related supplies required in the department
  • Liaises with sales personnel and purchasing staff as required
  • Conducts periodic reviews of departmental forms and procedures
  • Performs all duties related to a staff Cardiology Technologist
  • Works safely in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists recognized Diploma program in Cardiology Technology
  • Current certification with the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists and eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists (CSCT)
  • Minimum 3 years of recent experience as a Cardiology Technologist with expertise particularly in Exercise Stress Testing (both Regular and Nuclear, including Pharmacological Stress), Holter Monitoring and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, in a hospital setting
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) preferred
  • Post-graduate experience in a hospital setting preferred
  • Membership with the CAMRT is recommended
  • Post-graduate courses and experience in CT and Angiography is an asset
  • IV and contrast injection experience an asset
  • Bilingualism in French/English is an asset
