Summary of Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager, in collaboration with the Team Leader and the Pharmacist, Operations Coordinator, you will assist the pharmacist in their functions. You will perform the duties related to filling prescriptions, preparing and distributing medications, managing inventories of medications and supplies that the Pharmacy is responsible for. You will participate in collecting information on the patient’s administration of medication at home. You will actively collaborate with the pharmacist in fulfilling administrative tasks related to your functions. Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Check the first doses prepared by the pharmacy assistants and the magistral formulas
• Verify batches and prepared sterile medications
• Receive and triage prescriptions
• Create, consult and update the patient’s pharmacotherapeutic profile
• Prepare and distribute daily provisions of medications as requisitioned
• Conduct research to complete comprehensive medication histories
• Participate in continuously improving work methods, staff training and activity documentation
• Regularly verify inventories of medication stocked on care units, in medication carts, in emergency kits, etc.
• Prepare sterile solutions and extemporaneous products
• Keep up to date any register for controlling the distribution and use of narcotics and controlled drugs
• Ensure maintenance and cleaning of pharmacy equipment and material
• Compile data and participate in drafting statistical and other reports related to the Pharmacy
• Carry out any other related tasks at the request of your immediate supervisor

Profile and Experience

• Valid certificate of registration (permit) to practise as a Pharmacy Technician from the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP)
• Valid certificate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
• Minimum six (6) months’ experience acquired in the last two (2) years in a community or hospital pharmacy
• Command of aseptic techniques, pharmaceutical mathematics as well as medical and pharmaceutical terminology
• Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Meditech, use of the Internet)
• Intermediate knowledge of verbal and written French and English
