Due to ongoing growth and success of projects delivery team, CGI is seeking an experienced Unix System Administrator to join our world-class IT solution company to fill a permanent full-time role, on client site in Ottawa. This role will provide leading information technology services directly to our many clients around North America

We are looking for a self-motivated, career driven, ambitious candidate, experienced in IT systems administrator with good communication skills and strong drive to deliver results. You are driven to find solutions to problems by taking a big picture perspective and will work across different teams and disciplines in order to get things done.

You have a passion for system reliability and take an automation first approach to routine tasks.

Successful candidates will be senior enough to be capable of design level thinking for their area but also be willing to be individual contributors when needed. You have solid infrastructure support experience and having a passion to deliver innovative projects, preference will be given to candidates who will bring cloud and DevOps skills and experience.



Your future duties and responsibilities
Serve as the subject matter expert for all Unix/Linux systems.

-Participate in design and architecture of new systems and support tools solutions that meet or exceed established business and technical requirements
-Install, configure and troubleshoot infrastructure UNIX/Linux servers (physical and virtual), applications and software
-Performance and capacity analysis, planning and reporting.
-Create automated builds for server images.
-Reduce repetitive manual tasks through automation.
-Troubleshooting and resolving technical incidents and complex design and administration problems
-Exchanging information with solution vendors to coordinate maintenance work and problem resolution
-Taking ownership and devises effective solutions and a plan of action to ensure system performance, availability and to restore services to the customer satisfaction and to service levels
-Producing and updating technical documentation
-Identifying and implementing initiatives that improve or optimize existing infrastructure environments or processes in regards to security, stability and sustainability
-Evaluate non-functional characteristics including performance, availability, scalability, resilience
-Review environments for production and non-production (development, test, QA, training) and provide recommendations for on-going improvement and sustainability
-Ensure changes to existing services are made in a controlled manner: i.e. include impact assessment in consultation with the business and technical owners, regression testing of any impacted systems, and planned migration into production.



Required qualifications to be successful in this role
- Secret Security clearance required.
- A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline;
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in similar roles for a large enterprise
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux system administration
- RHEL, OL, & MS high availability cluster technology
- Designing and building high availability environments
-Linux server hardening and performance tunning
- Advanced experience in Unix architecture and security
- Advanced UNIX/Linux scripting skills. Shell scripting and coding in python or similar languages
- Configuration management using Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.
- Strong troubleshooting, reasoning and problem solving skills
- Team player able to be effective in a collaborative team environment; willing to share knowledge and learn from others
- Track record for effectively participating in projects through solution development and project management lifecycles
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English with both clients and internal organizations
- Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation in English
- Experience working with deployment automation tools such as Jenkins, Ant, Maven
- Understanding of LAN/WAN networking, experience switches, firewalls, etc.
- Advanced knowledge and experience of modern virtualization and container technologies and of current best practices (VMWare, Hyper-V, docker etc)
- Knowledge of and experience in Super Clusters, centralized storage technologies (SANs), ZFS file systems
- Highly self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision
-Experience with public cloud (AWS, Azure, OCI, etc) use, administration and architecture an asset.
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in Solaris 11, UNIX System administration and hardware support and build automation (Scripting, Packaging, Ansible, OpsCenter)
